Root Virgin Mobile Voicemail with Custom ROM

I would really like to try a custom rom, but I can't figure out how all of you deal with voicemail. I understand that the visual voicemail app won't work with any of the custom roms, but how do you setup voicemail to work the way voicemail worked on VM prior to visual voice mail.

When I tried to use an earlier version of CM, I would get several weird texts everytime a voicemail was left. I would be fine just going back to the "old" way with a voice mail notification icon and just calling in for voice mail; but I don't know how to do that.

I have been receiving the aforementioned texts, as well.

//ANDROID: 10001112222 has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-7970-0000 to listen. MMSN,ce1234567ee,111,V111... (Numbers changed for anonymity)

For what it's worth, I had my voicemail disabled perhaps a year or two ago, by calling customer service, since I use Google Voice. I wonder if it might have been re-enabled, when activating a new phone.
I will try downloading and installing the APK, and see if I can get to the bottom of this situation, as well.

Incidentally, I am on Cyanogenmod 11, as well.

I'm currently on PA and this apk works for me:

It does work still getting the text from sprint as well

Hi,

I started posting my comments in http://androidforums.com/threads/new-update.876630/page-4, but the issue I have seems to be specific to the voicemail application (not specific to the B07 update as I initially thought, so I will repost the information here.

- I am on the stock rom (B07) with TWRP recovery (I used the package shared by spock in the thread linked above) and I noticed that the (visual) voicemail application is not installed. The N800_B07_FULL package has the vtt-sprint.apk file on the system/app folder, but the voicemail application is not really installed.

- I have restored an old B06 backup with TWRP and the behavior is the same, so the issue does not come from spock's B07 package.

- I have also restored an older B04 backup and that one works well: the voicemail application is installed and shows a notification (in the notification bar) saying that I have a voice mail.

- I have downloaded a few different versions of Virgin's (Sprint's) voicemail application (vtt-sprint.apk, VMM.apk, com.coremobility.app.vnotes-1), including the one shared by urrachris in this thread, but I cannot install them: I get a "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package". The "unknown sources" setting is enabled . I can install them on a tablet, so the apk's don't seem to be corrupted.

- I also tried copying them manually in system/app (and changing permission to 644), but the result is the same.

- I have also tried to backup the voicemail application while in B04 (using Titanium Backup) and restore it in B07, but it fails - Titanium doesn't finish (I left it running while taking a shower). Titanium manages to copy the vtt-sprint.apk in system/app, but the application doesn't really get installed.

I am really lost here. Maybe the next step is to try a different ROM, but I would hate that as the stock ROM has been great for us.
Any help/suggestion appreciated, Thanks!

1.open the stock dialer
2.hit menu then enter settings
3.scroll down and select voicemail
4.select setup
5.select voicemail number and put your phone number

Hi,

When I select "voicemail" (step #5) I get an error:
"Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped."

I am not sure, but maybe this is normal since voicemail is not installed?

Thanks

That may be the case. Are you on a stock based rom?

Supposedly stock ... I used the N800_B07_FULL package shared by spock1104 in this thread: http://androidforums.com/threads/new-update.876630/page-2

I was in B06 stock with TWRP, but I was unable to the get the B07 update automatically (it requires stock recovery). The N800_B07_FULL package can be flashed using TWRP.

Maybe the problem is that that N800_B07_FULL package is not 100% stock? (that would be a question for spock).
Maybe I should try to go full stock (even recovery) and see what happens after an automatic B07 update. I have a dummy phone with touchscreen issues, maybe I can try that, but it's a lot of work :(

spock's N800_B07_FULL.zip package is not the problem, the problem starts with the B06 update. I installed the stock recovery and stock ROM (B04), and then I did the automatic updates (B04->B05, B05->B06,...) and the voicemail application disappears on B06. And it's not possible to install it ("parse error") after B06.

A lot of work for nothing. Now back to install TWRP and restore my latest B07 image ..
