I don't recommend using task killers. It is better to just get into the habit of closing them yourself when you don't want them running. Task killers are like Ctrl+Alt+Del, they immediately force the program to close, and don't allow the program to clean things up ( Like memory usage, caches, etc. )

makes sense (about the ctrl+atl+del analogy)... when you said "get into the habit of closing them yourself", what is the proper way to close these apps? for example using a popular app like astro.. after i'm done with what i need to do, is there anything i should do to end the program?

That depends on whether or not the app is coded (and behaving) properly. That is indeed the way it is supposed to work...but your data has shown that it isn't always the case. Sometimes when the OS asks a program if it is not being used, and ok to put things to sleep...the program just responds no, it is still in use, stay awake. It could be poor coding, or just a bug that you've ran into. Hard to say from our end. Just keep up with what I mentioned ( with the shutting down or removing 1 app at a time. ) until you find the one misbehaving. From there, you can try reinstalling it to see if a clean install works, or you might need to seek a replacement app.

that's going to be my plan... unfortunately i kind of screwed up my test... i was trying to collect battery data and uptime vs awake time data, but screwed up in my data collection cuz i didnt clearly mark when i was accessing the phone to cause the awake time... i'll need to start over... the slightly good news is that over the last two hours there hasnt been a massive drop in battery (7%)... slightly good news only cuz i dont know what i did that was different, if anything.

HTC used a 1300mah capacity battery in the Incredible and a 1500 in the Eris......why wouldn't it be possible for a company to make a 1750mah battery in the same form factor?

I don't have a Seidio 1750, but it seems all of the bad words said about it all stem from ONE unscientific comparison using the wrong equipment.....the BatteryBoss review. In contrast, there are countless good reviews on websites, storefronts, and forums such as this one across the web.

Wrong. The Eris used a 1300 mah battery.... Same as the incredible.

Where's your proof? If you want to make a counter claim, watch your language and do your own tests with quantitative data.

you open your mouth and call their claims lies, because of one guy testing them.

I looked at FlyPenFly's previous post's.

All he does is go on and on about apple, and the lies of seidio.

Go away troll

That depends on the program. Most programs will have a method of closing them from within, be it a simple X or maybe in the menu, maybe even settings. ( Also make sure to check settings on stuff to see if there is anything about auto-start, or don't auto-start ).

If you can't find anything inside the app to close it, the next best is using the built in method of killing apps and services. First for the Apps: Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications. ( This list will be big, TIP: Select Menu -> Filter -> Downloaded if it's something you downloaded, else Running. ) Select the App and go down to "Force Stop"

If the offender is a service, just go to Settings -> Applications -> Running Services. ( The services are listed with black backgrounds, the grey ones are whatever uses the service. ) Select the services, and press "stop".

Finally: If for some reason you couldn't close it using the above, then go ahead and use something like the task killer in Astro File Manager...but that should be a last resort.

that's going to be my plan... unfortunately i kind of screwed up my test... i was trying to collect battery data and uptime vs awake time data, but screwed up in my data collection cuz i didnt clearly mark when i was accessing the phone to cause the awake time... i'll need to start over... the slightly good news is that over the last two hours there hasnt been a massive drop in battery (7%)... slightly good news only cuz i dont know what i did that was different, if anything.

I know how that can be:) I've seen several drastic changes in my battery life that I'm still trying to work out myself. We're all knew to the Incredible:)

The one consistency of AndroidForums is the delusion of value from threads by a vocal minority who lack the ability and tact to disagree without being vested emotionally. Worse is the mis-information often perpetuated by both sides of an argument as people fight their intellectual turf war.

Your best weapon when taking a stance is to link additional information relevant to your argument. Otherwise people visualize you jumping up-and-down, stomping your feet, and crying because the whole world doesn't agree with you.

Today was the longest charge I have had since I got the phone the 29th, hopefully this means the battery is getting better.

I have a wireless campus so I didn't use 3g hardly at all.
I have been recording my battery usage with battery graph since Sunday. I'll export the data in a few days

Ok I may have something here. I ran all day yesterday with rather limited usage. I noticed once I got home last night it seemed to get better battery life. SO I looked into the info and the graph once it got low and I think it may be because i have poor reception at work. look at these numbers.

So that shows alot of what I'm talking about. Then when you look at the usage over time you can see what I mean. I got to work at 8am and left at 5. I really rarely use it at work, I used it a bit before leaving for work and that was about it.

Hi Everyone, got some more stats from my tests with the stock battery (1300mAh) this time. It was my first full day with the stock battery so it may need some time to get better at holding a charge.

UpTime: 10:29:37
AwakeTime: 6:57:01
Battery %: 4%
Wifi: Off
GPS: On (used for about 10 minutes)
Bluetooth: Off
Always on Mobile data: On
Sync: On

UnPlugged time: 10:29:37 This is consistent with other figures I've seen.

Yesterday I gave it a 6 hour charging before pulling it off the charger at 12:15pm. I used it sparingly throughout the work day and it was down to 85% by the time I left work @ 4:30pm.

Typical usage from 12:15pm - 10:45pm: Emails (15), Texts (10), Phone calls (1 hour), Youtube (30mins), Video (30Mins), Newsrob, Touiteur, Engadget, NPR News browsing, A little bit of maps, played some Jewels, composed an email or two, and it died while talking to my fianc

The Eris has a 1300mah battery as well the TouchPro2 had the 1500mah battery and it is slightly bigger then the 1300... And from what I've read people with a 1750 have said it's slightly larger but fits in the phone.

Honestly I think the TP2 and Seido Batteries are very similar I think the Seidio battery is probably a little better but at twice the cost I dont know if I'd go that route.

I'm waiting to see what the 2150 battery looks like and how much bigger it really is since right now it's all speculation. If it's bigger then the rumors Imight end up getting the Seidio. I have no problems making it thru the day on either my stock incredible battery or generic TP2 battery.

I dont' think the battery is 1mm thicker I think they said the phone would be 1mm thicker with the new cover

Ya, I think the 1mm rumor is something that has spread and was morphed from the original .100 inch (2.54mm) rumor, which is more likely, but still pretty small.

I just took my OEM battery out to measure it.

Thickness is about 0.175 inch (varies due to paper)
Length: 2.57 inch
Width: 1.725

Volume: 0.776 in^3
Ampere-hours: 1300 mAh

or A-h/Vol. = 1675 mAh/in^3

If we assume the same energy density of the extended battery, with the same length and width,

(2150 mAh / ( (1675 mAh/in^3)*1.725in*2.57in) ) = Thickness = 0.290 inch

So the extended battery will be about 0.290 inches thick, for a difference of 0.115 inches (2.9mm)
over the stock battery

Add in the current thickness of the Incredible, 0.48 inch (12.2mm), the extended battery will increase the thickness by about 24%, for a 65% increase in battery power.

This is not fact, just an exercise in estimation based on our current knowledge.

Hi again zemerick and arich57 ;) I have begun a new battery test that should give pretty accurate results. With both the Seidio 1750mah and the OEM Inc battery. I've taken out several variables and will be able to duplicate usage almost spot on between the 2 batteries as my usage varies little + I'm off tomorrow . Batteries are charged over night with phone OFF and booting up in the morn.

This post is for the OEM 1300mah Inc battery.

These settings will be the same tomorrow on the Seidio 1750mah battery:

- GPS OFF
- Bluetooth OFF
- 3G ON entire time (3G only NO WIFI)
- Enable always on data ON entire time
- Background data is ON entire time
- Auto-sync is ON entire time - gmail, weather, and Youmail (syncs every 2hrs and after each missed phone call)
- Auto-brightness OFF and brightness set to 40%

- 5-7 emails
- 40 SMS msgs
- 59 minutes 6 sec of RoboDefense
- 29 minutes 46 sec of phone calls
- 15 min web browsing and 15 min youtube videos

Uptime - 10h 50m
Awake - 2h 30m
(EDIT): Battery drained down to 14% warning

Cell standby: 25% - (10h 49m 43s)
Android sys: 23% - (9m 52s total cpu)
Phone idle: 22% - (8h 52m 29s)
Voice calls: 13% - (29m 46s)
Display: 8% - (1h 57m 23s)
RoboDefense: 5% - (59m 6s total cpu)
Dialer: 4% - (58s total cpu)

I did it this way because it would take the least amount of time....and it did! I don't normally have all this stuff on syncing all the time. I sync when I want, I'm not in a "corporate environment." When I want email I go get it. When I want weather I load the app. etc... :p I typically have been getting about 20'ish hours from the OEM battery. Will be interesting to see what the Seidio does tomorrow. Hope this helps!

There is a good 2 hours difference between your unplug and uptime. Did you have it on a charger for awhile before unplugging it?
