Root [Virgin Mobile] Samsung updating a stock ROM rooted phone

I want to get as many updates as possible from samsung so I'm unrooting momentarily.

My question is, if I leave root apps in my phone and unroot it, would I experience problems asides the apps just not working?

Thank you

Won't be any problems. What is your build and baseband? Mg5, mc1, or nd4? I only ask because I can get you the update packages that will work while rooted. They flash in twrp.

That would be cool thank you!

I had heard somewhere samsung released a kitkat update and wanted to do that too but seems not the case.

Build and version ZO54K.L300VPAMG5

Kernel 3.0.31-1308964

No KitKat. The latest is still 4.1.2. But the build is nd4. (Last 3 digits is how we categorize) here is the latest update mg5 to nd4.
Its a zip you can flash in twrp as long as you are rooted and on stock ROM.

If I have the vaevictus kernel can I still flash the nd4 no props, and if not is there a way to just flash the stock kernel? I ask this because I'm already on stock and I dont have wifi, AND my phone is throttled to like 20kbs, so downloading a gb stock tar isnt exactlt feasible :/
All you want is the kernel? For the no props mg5 to nd4 to work, you have to be on the stock ROM and stock kernel. It only works on stock rooted ROM. To go from mg5 to nd4 with an update zip you need to be on mg5 stock ROM. Are you on a custom ROM now? If yes, the only ways to get to nd4 are
1. Restore a pure stock mg5 backup (I have one but its a big file) then flashing no props mg5 to nd4 zip.
Or 2. Stock mg5 tar and wait for ota.
Any way you slice it you need big files.

Edit: just noticed you said you were on stock ROM. I'll find you the stock mg5 kernel. I may have it on my PC at home. If you've modded your system too much or deleted any stock apps then the no props may still error out.

I restored to an absolutely stock backup from an out of the box phone (after it had been rooted to mg5). Correct, the stock kernel is all I need. If you could find it I'd really appreciate it. I'm thinking you're in need of a donation after all the help you've provided me over the years, and the community as a whole!
Hey if you have a stock mg5 backup, you have the kernel. Restore that backup in Twrp. But only restore "boot". That's the kernel. But I'm getting my other PC out to look on it for ya.

Update: here is the stock mg5 kernel. I don't have time to make it a flashable zip right now. But if you're still rooted just get the app " flashify" from the play store. It will install img files for you.

Update 2: OK I made it a flashable zip. here ya go.

I've restored several stock mg5 boots and still it says I have the vaevictus kernel. Also my baseband and version are different...
Btw the flashable boot failed. I still have been to try flashing the img in flashify.
Update: the image flashed fine using flashify.

Looks like you updated to mg5 then flashed an old mc1 ROM. Or never updated past mc1 but still flashed an mg5 ROM.
Wait, you updated to mg5 then restored an old mc1 nandroid backup maybe. Either way a mixed system is bad. You need to flash a mg5 stock ROM to get it right. But even when flashing moonknightus' mg5 stock ROM, no one was able to use the no props zip. It always fails. He must have accidently changed something. Most ppl (to update to nd4) have had to use my mg5 stock backup in twrp, then no props mg5 to nd4 update. Especially with a mixed system, that's what others have had to do.
Always a bad idea to restore backups from older builds. Like if you were already mg5, should not restore an mc1 backup. Backups do not change modems (baseband).

Also, sorry about the borked flashable zip. It was late and I rushed. I know you don't need it but here is the fixed one. mg5 stock kernel
