Help how to stop phone screen coming on when charging

Hi, I have an android lg g2 and there is recently a feature that is really bugging me.

When I plug into a charger the phone screen comes on. When I receive a text message the phone screen comes on. This is particularly problematic as it can come on in a pocket.

I don't use a pass code because it's to slow to open phone when needed and I have screen time out set to 5 mins because face check is very unreliable.

Anyone know if these features can be disabled?
