Sideloaded the OTA last night, super stoked to finally have this! (Since it was a major reason I bought it...)

Anyone else on the update yet?

The links are all in a neat post on XDA. I figured they'd make it there first so I was watching like a hawk all weekend. It was posted up last night.

To sideload LYZ28E you must be currently on LMY47M.

This is interesting - didn't know they had these out already! I was waiting for the factory images to be available.

To confirm - do these flashable files basically take a Nexus 6 (regardless of what it is running at the moment - stock, stock rooted, custom ROM, custom everything), to the target build of that specific file? And does it leave you completely stock/unrooted on the target build? (assuming unlocked bootloader of course)

I'm on the LMY47D - stock/Unlocked Bootloader/Rooted/TWRP) - to get to LYZ28E, I could just
  1. Download the "LYZ28E (5.1.1 TMO)" file to my phone
  2. Reboot into TWRP
  3. Wipe system/cache/dalvik
  4. flash the file from #1 above
  5. Reboot (what about the "no system installed" note in that op? Just hit Next/continue or something?)
Is that right?
Sounds like I'll have my custom recovery still installed - and I could just flash SuperSU from there after booting into Android.

If this were the factory image, that would be correct. However, these are the files that come in an over-the-air upgrade. That means this file can only upgrade a specific version of previous firmware. In T-Mobile's case, it will only update your phone from LMY47M 5.1. Furthermore, the root file system must be stock. If you've rooted or flashed a custom kernel, you can't upgrade with an OTA package unless you unroot and flash the stock kernel back on.

That's what I had to do, as I was running LMY47M rooted with Franco kernel. Made backups of all my apps, flashed LRX22C, accepted the OTA to LMY47M (it will be ready as soon as you flash LRX22C), and once LMY47M was running, I was able to side-load the OTA for LYZ28E. Most will still have to side-load the new stuff because it just started rolling out, and not everyone's phone will download it automatically yet.

I'm impatient... :D

edit: as an aside, LYZ28E *should* be appearing on the Nexus Factory Image page in a few days, I'd wager. If you'd rather flash the full firmware instead of upgrade, keep your eyes on this page:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

double-edit: oh, also these do not flash through fastboot. There's an ADB command to side-load the OTA package, and it has to be done through ADB-Sideload mode in recover. I can't tell you the specifics, because I cheated with the sideloading and used Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. :D

Yessir,just as you described.
I'm set up exactly as you are:Stock/Unlocked Bootloader/Rooted/TWRP 2.8.6.0
Yes,just continue,it'll reboot & initialize your apps.
Then, you'll get a message/prompt/question if you want to install SuperSu.
Select yes, choose TWRP as the install method.
Phone willl boot into recovery & install SuperSu.
You may see a red 'Failed' appear as the phone reboots from the SuperSU install.
Don't worry,all is OK,just let the phone reboot & you'll be OK.
I even have BLINKFEED installed as a system app(s) in priv/apps & all is well, kept all data & all is good,w/update installed.

EDIT:
Just to clarify, you'll keep everything, including TWRP,you'll just be prompted to re-install SuperSu & you'll keep root access.

The WI-FI Calling on the Nexus 6 couldn't have come at a better time,as I'll be spending a good chunk of my work schedule in sketchy carrier signal strength/coverage beginning tomorrow.

Thanks :)
I was actually referring to the post by KOLIO, that was not referencing the OTA files, but the flashable zip. I've always used the factory images, so hadn't realized that folks were making the flashable zips available. But for OTA files, your post is accurate (and very detailed)! Thanks!
As much as I'd like to wait a few days and just flash the factory images, I suspect I will be impatient, and so, wanted to keep the flashable zips as an option. I could downgrade to 5.0.1 and then 5.1 - M and then 5.1.1, but I'm lazy (in addition to being impatient) :D

Yessir,just as you described.
Thank you so much for the confirmation, and the detailed steps! I've downloaded the file to my phone already. In all likelihood, I'll be flashing it tomorrow ;)

As expected, I didn't wait for the factory images, and flashed it. The only difference was that I didn't root it in TWRP right after flashing, because I read the following statement on the first post of the XDA thread
"Also, do not install any other zips that touch the system partition until after first boot, as it seems to corrupt the system patching process."
Didn't want to risk it, so I booted into Android, let it finish optimizing, and then, rebooted into TWRP, and flashed SuperSU that way.
So far so good though - thanks again :)

Maybe a little off topic, but can someone try to send and receive an MMS message with Wifi calling on? My Nexus 6 is en route, but my TMO Note 3 will only send/receive MMS if Wifi calling is off. Wifi itself can be on and connected, it's just Wifi calling that prevents it.

I'm having trouble with group messaging which is MMS from what I've read, maybe I'll try turning off wifi calling and seeing if that helps.

You shouldn't. I'm rooted through Wugfresh and WiFi calling works a treat. From what I've read, you cannot change your kernel though. At least, not yet.

This would be accurate as Google has not released the kernel source for WFC yet. Many (including myself) have found it may be easier to implement patches from m-preview, which does have some WFC code within to get WFC operational on current 5.1.1_r5 Lollipop ROMs.

hey all, I'm very concerned about this. I just signed up to Tmobile all unlimited and I got a Nexus 6 directly from Motorola, not from T-mobile.

Nexus 6
Shamu XT1103 32GB P3A0
Lollipop 5.1.1
Stock
Rooted,
Baseband version: MDM9625_104446.01.02.101R
Kernel version 3.10.40-geec2459
Build number: LMY47Z
Custom TWRP

It seems that doesn't have the wifi calling stuff on any of my options, I could not find any about wifi calling options.

Can I put another another android stock operating system that works on my Nexus 6 even when I did not buy the nexus 6 from Tmobile?

Shall it work fine with all other carriers as AT&T, Movistar, etc?

I believe that I read that if you change the OS it comes with different radios, etc and I don't know if shall affect other carriers if you later on want to swap nano sims.

Please help !!!

LMY47Z is the Sprint 5.1.1 build. The T-Mo build is LYZ28E.
It should work the same except you will get the T-Mo Wi-Fi calling only with the T-Mo build (for now)

You can download the factory image for LYZ28E and flash it. Some builds do have different radios, but they are usually (so far) compatible with other carriers. Worst case scenario, you can always flash the right build - it is a Nexus after all.

Great, Can I save all the hassle and just installing with Wugs Fresh tool?

I know that I need first to unroot and put everything to stock / normal then I believe that I just need to flash new version that that you are telling for the wifi calling LYZ28E, am I right?

Let me see if Wugs fresh has it already.

Yes, Wugs Fresh has LYZ28E,

Can I just back to stock + Unroot on LMY47Z and then flash LYZ28E and that's it?

Please advise about steps that I need to do, thanks

I have never used a toolkit, so I can't comment on how it works. I've read that it works well for folks.

With regular fastboot, you don't have to unroot unless you are planning to flash the OTA zip. What I do usually is just download the new image that I want to get to, and just flash each file from within the image in the right sequence (I skip userdata img file to avoid overwriting my data)

Sorry, I can't help with Wugs, cause I've never used it.

I follow the steps outlined in the link below. In Step 5, I don't use the Method 1 (Flash-All script). That has not worked in the recent past. I end up using Method 2 instead (I skip the userdata step)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-flash-factory-images-nexus-6shamu-t2954008

I'm sure Wugs has a straightforward process that will avoid wiping data. The reason I (personally) don't like toolkits is because if something goes wrong, you may not know what went wrong. (again, since I have not used Wugs, I can't say for sure how detailed it is - maybe it does tell you all this, and more)
