Root How to disable that damn system write protection

Its always a good idea to keep a full backup of the system and boot partitions just in case you mess something up later. Its an even better idea to backup everything (system, boot, and data) because losing your data and having to reinstall all your apps and do your setup gets aggravating.

Also, as long as the md5 sums for both files match the ones in the 2nd post the zips will work perfectly.
Thank you very much sir :)

I make a recovery of the latest working set up so my android will go back to where I left it without it seeming like I did something immensely not recommended.....
mental security blanket..
and....flash the restore zip before you make your backup...if you flashed the switcher...
I tend to panic...lol..I'm crazy..
DO NOT PANIC..IT DOES NOTHING FOR YOU....lol

I just looked and noticed that the switcher zip has about 50% more downloads than the restore zip. It seems like a lot of people don't get the idea that both of them are equally necessary. The only use that TWRP serves being on the boot partition is that it gives you a way to flash the restore zip. You cant flash any zip that writes to the system or make or restore backups without first flashing the restore zip to put things back in their correct places.

Question good sir... I have both zips, however I have only used the one. I have kept my system with r/w access. Is this ok? I get what you said about twrp but will it cause ANY sort of issues with keeping myself in recovery? Or should I just run your zip get r/w access for when I need it, and flash back to normal?

I keep my phone RW all the time. Whenever I need to use twrp I flash the restore zip then after I'm done I flash the switcher zip again for system RW. I know I've already said this many times but never factory reset your phone from the settings menu or without putting twrp back on the recovery partition and rebooting recovery.

Is there any way someone could post a video of actually doing these steps?

It doesn't need to be a real guide, just enough to understand the flow.

I have a multitude of stupid questions, but a short video could answer them all.

You get root from an APP on your PHONE.

While rooted, reboot and ADB twrp over recovery.

Now you got twrp. But to write to system you need to swap boot and recovery.

????????

So how do you swap boot and recovery if twrp can't write to system... Er... Wait...

So TWRP works from both partitions for manipulating partitions that are NOT /system ?

So then you *can* remove the PC requirement immediately after installing TWRP? No PC here.

And the only time you need a PC is to go back full stock?

But even then, if you don't mind twrp recovery, you could still flash stock ROM with twrp on device (no PC)?

So, since we got twrp, we are a 100% go. Boot twrp as boot.IMG and system is rooted in the traditional sense (super su denies and grants root).
If you need to flash anything to /system, use the recover zip, reboot to twrp on /recovery, and flash. Before rebooting, flash the other zip and root is "traditional sense", again. Is this basically all correct???

EDIT
I'm rooted now. Kingroot until success, installed twrp, rebooted to twrp, installed superSu. Rebooted.

Now, about those zips... Which do I run to have traditional Root type access (r/w)?

EDIT AGAIN
Read again, got it. In twrp, after flashing that zip, reboot to recovery option for android.

I assume rebooting normally will boot recovery?

Sorry tonpost the whole train of thought... But others could use this post methinks....

too many good answers in this thread....I was marking every other answer as best answer until I figured out I kept undoing the last best answer....yah..the crazy thing again...lol

I make folders for every group of zips I need to flash from my sd...
I may have double copies of some here and there....but, say i wanna sport BUTTERNOOB...all the files i need are in one folder..the restore, the switch, the ROM..
although it is smarter to keep em in the root...
my sd is like my pc storage...a total wreck....ADHD will do that for you....
so the folder thing had to happen.

Hi everyone, something that has been bothering me is the fact that in order to have write access to the system partition while booted in Android, you have to copy the boot.img to the recovery partition. This has been causing a lot of people to brick their phones because they messed something up and didn't have a recovery installed. My idea was to create a pair of flashable zips that will allow you to easily copy the boot.img to the recovery partition while still having TWRP installed. This allows you to have full root capabilities while still having TWRP installed on your phone. I went ahead and made these zips for my MetroPCS ZMAX and they work so I have decided to share them, hoping it will decrease the number of people bricking their phones.

If you are reading this, I will assume that you have already at least obtained temporary root with kinguser. I will not go into detail on how to do this because there are already guides telling you how to get temp & permanent root and install TWRP. If you havent yet done so, install ZTE ZMAX TWRP built by the master craftsman hroark13 before you read any further. All credit goes tohroark13 for building TWRP for all of us. All that I have done is put together some flashable zips to make things easier.

DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THESE ZIPS OR POST DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINKS!!!
This is very important because if you upload these zips and one of the files gets corrupted it may potentially brick someone's phone. It is also very important that you dont post direct download links because anyone who downloads these files needs to be able to check the md5 sums to make sure that they didn't get a bad download.

Download links and instructions will be in the 2nd post shortly.
Please make sure that you thank hroark13 for his work. Hit the like/thanks button to show your support or buy him a beer.
I creates a nanodroid back up of my system and installed butternoob and it works fine but I think I deleted my nanodriud metro PCs zte zmax everything is working fine just wondering how to install switcher on my system

What condition is your phone in now? Can you boot into android normally? What about twrp?

Yes I was able to hold the volume key and it went into butternoob and it went into the phone setup and installed everything and yes I can boot into android normally but tried both files and it keeps on saying failed
If you power the phone off then turn it back on by holding power and volume up, does it go into twrp, or android? Also, you need to make sure that zip file signature verification is turned off in twrp. I don't sign my zips so if signature verification is turned on, twrp will refuse to flash them.

@DeadDude, I made just such a video yesterday.

And Masterchief87, I sent you a PM, but it looks like you are already talking to him
I actually didn't soft brick my phone. I checked the md5 after copying the files to a flash drive and saw that they had been corrupted so I deleted the copies and copied them again and checked the md5 again and everything was good the 2nd time. I like the video but I think I'm going to do my own and add it to the op. Thank you though.

What about the zip file signature verification, did you make sure that it is turned off?
Yea its turned off but it keeps on telling me unable to flash those two files
