Root How to disable that damn system write protection

I actually didn't soft brick my phone. I checked the md5 after copying the files to a flash drive and saw that they had been corrupted so I deleted the copies and copied them again and checked the md5 again and everything was good the 2nd time. I like the video but I think I'm going to do my own and add it to the op. Thank you though.

My apologies for misreading your message about that Masterchief87. I made the video because I was being bombarded with questions on google+. I made it to show people EXACTLY, how to run your files... And still not everyone listened or paid attention. And James that isnt directed at you

Not to mention it was my very first upload ever for "public broadcast."

The first is MPCS_TWRP_&_BOOT_SWITCHER.zip. When you flash this zip in recovery it will flash TWRP to the boot partition and flash the stock boot.img for MetroPCS to the recovery partition. This will allow you to boot into android with the ability to mount /system rw while keeping TWRP on the boot partition in case you need it. After you flash this zip, if you "reboot normally" your phone will boot into twrp recovery, and if you "reboot recovery" your phone will boot into android with full root capabilities. Because of the locked bootloader TWRP cannot write to the system from the boot partition. You have to flash the second zip in order to be able to restore a backup, factory reset, or flash roms.

The second is MPCS_TWRP_&_BOOT_RESTORE.zip. When you flash this zip it will put the boot.img back on the boot partition and put TWRP back on the recovery partition. After you flash this zip, you need to "reboot recovery" before you are able to restore a backup, factory reset, or flash roms.

You must check the md5 sum for both zips after you download them in order to make sure that everything is good. If you skip this very important step you could mess your phone up badly. If your md5 does not match, delete the files and download them again and then check the md5 again. Also, I recently moved the switcher & restore zips that I use from my internal storage to my SD card and one of the files got corrupted. This means that you also need to check the md5 sums again whenever you to move or copy these files.
You can use md5 Checker or the CM11 File Manager to check the md5 and make sure that you did not get a bad download.
If there is anything that you are not 100% sure of, ask before you flash!!

Hi everyone, something that has been bothering me is the fact that in order to have write access to the system partition while booted in Android, you have to copy the boot.img to the recovery partition. This has been causing a lot of people to brick their phones because they messed something up and didn't have a recovery installed. My idea was to create flashable zips that will allow you to easily copy the boot.img to the recovery partition while still having TWRP installed. This allows you to have full root capabilities while still having TWRP installed on your phone. I went ahead and made these zips for my ZMAX and they work perfectly so I have decided to share them, hoping it will decrease the number of people bricking their phones.

If you are reading this, I will assume that you have already at least obtained temporary root with kinguser. I will not go into detail on how to do this because there are already guides telling you how to get temp & permanent root and install TWRP. If you havent yet done so, install ZTE ZMAX TWRP built by the master craftsman hroark13 before you read any further. All credit goes to hroark13 for building TWRP for all of us. All that I have done is put together some flashable zips to make things easier. Special thanks to xtremeasure ( Android Forums Profile, XDA Profile ) and imattmodz for helping test my zips for T-Mobile and for valuable advice which helped take the risk out of using these zips.

DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THESE ZIPS OR POST DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINKS!!!
This is very important because if you upload these zips and one of the files gets corrupted it may potentially brick someone's phone. It is also very important that you dont post direct download links because anyone who downloads these files needs to be able to check the md5 sums to make sure that they didn't get a bad download.

I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. If you use my zips you are doing so at your own risk. I have thoroughly tested all four of these zips and they all work perfectly. If you have a problem after using my zips then you did something wrong.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO FACTORY RESET FROM THE SETTINGS MENU AND DONT FACTORY RESET WITHOUT FIRST FLASHING THE RESTORE ZIP TO PUT TWRP AND THE BOOT.IMG BACK WHERE THEY NORMALLY GO.
DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA UPDATES NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU MAY WANT TO.

Please make sure that you thank hroark13 for his work. Hit the like/thanks button to show your support or buy him a beer.
What is this when you format twrp it shows wiping data without wiping /data/media

I think I told you I had the r/w write thing installed bevuase I had installed viper4android and when I installed it gives you 3 options extreme.moderate .power saver so I wanted to change it to power saver drivers so I went into twrp and instead of zipping boot switcher I installed the second file by mistake

None of this would cause the zips to quit working. I'm sorry but I have no idea what you're doing wrong.

If you flashed the restore zip instead of the switcher zip then all you should have to do is re flash the switcher again. Did you make sure that zip file signature verification is turned off in twrp?

I'm going to make a video on how to root the zmax and then I'm going to make another one on how to use my zips. I tried making one that showed the whole process from start to finish but it ended up being like 45 minutes long
Using the kingrootv4 apk, the modded twrp app, supersu twrp zip and yours I had my phone perm rooted and with r/w in about 20min without a pc.

I was also trying to explain everything in detail for people who don't really know what they are doing since those are the people that the video would be for.

Oh. I thought you were doing the long method involving command prompts and whatnot on pc. I haven't seen any phone only root guides and have been too lazy to create a thread.
