Help. My phone just died.

Can anybody give me any tips on what I might be able to do get my droid back and running again? I guess I can go to the VZ store as a last resort but I'd rather not.

So last night I was at about 15% battery life and I figured I would just let it run down over night and then recharge the battery in the morning. When I woke up, my phone was off so I assumed the battery was dead and I would just charge it. When I went to charge the phone, the screen shows the Motorola logo but then it wouldn't go into the Droid boot screen with the droid eye. I seems to be stuck.

I didn't drop the phone and have actually never dropped the phone. I've removed the battery and the micro sc card and tried putting them back in and nothing. I don't know what else to try. Can anybody help me? I guess if nothing works, I'll be going to the VZ store after work to get a new one.

Continue charging it. When you let the battery get below a certain point you sometimes have to charge it for a while before it will turn back on again.

Plug it into a wall charger and leave it alone. If the battery level got too low/empty there is not enough juice to boot it, even though it's plugged in. Give it a while and see, sounds like that is the problem though.

just leave it plugged in for a like 3 minutes with the phone turned off, and then try and turn it on. the phone may pull some battery on boot up even though its plugged in.

other than that, it sounds like a hardware issue if you have never rooted your phone

The phone is not rooted or anything. It's a standard issue droid with some downloaded apps.

I'll leave it on the charger for a little bit but I've never experienced that to be a problem as I've let my phone completely drain the battery and die overnight to be charged in the morning many times. What i've noticed is that when the phone dies from the battery going out, I just plug the charger in and it starts right up. Normally, I'll see the Motorola logo and then after that the Droid eye and then the Droid logo show and it continues booting. This time, it stops after the Motorola logo.

Does anybody know of anyway to do a hard reset instead of just taking the battery out?

Once it gets past a certain threshold, the cell might require trickle charging to prevent damage.

It's like that by design, the phone wants to be on when plugged in. My recommendation would be not to drain the battery, it's not going to help, especially if the battery is the issue.

If it doesn't fully boot without the battery when it's plugged into the wall, it's not the battery, it's the phone. You likely need a replacement.

Don't screw around with your battery, because last I checked, they make you keep it for your replacement.

I'm pretty sure it's the phone too as you're correct that even when I take out the battery and plug it into the wall charger, it doesn't boot up. I can't believe my phone just died like this. Makes me question Motorola and the Android platform. I did love the droid when it was working 100% like a champ but now that this hiccup has happened, it makes me wondered if I should have gone with the LG Touch or even Blackberry.

Hopefully, it'll be an easy process to get my phone replaced but I believe when they swap out my phone, they'll be giving me a refurbished phone and not a brand new one. That sucks.

Your phone probably isn't broken as like someone above has said this happens all the time when you let your battery go too low... Just give a few hours before throwing a fit and bad mouthing Motorola and the entire Android platform (which has nothing to do with this issue BTW)...

Please read my posts before you accuse me bad mouthing anybody. Where in my posts did I badmouth Motorola or this forum? I'm simply asking for help and responding to people's suggestion. I didn't dismiss anybody's suggestions. I simply took it and tried them and I'm reporting back what the outcome was and asking for other suggestions. Get a clue man.

Now, I even called the VZ tech support and they have no idea.

Like I said, a fair suggestion regarding letting the battery charge but like I said, I don't think it's the battery because if I take the battery out and plug the phone into the wall charger, I still have the same problem.

I plan on taking it to the VZ store after work and having them test the battery just in case.

And I don't see you saying anything about actually pluging it into the wall and then leaving it for a few hours. That will more then likely fix your issue, you said that you can't plug it in without it trying to boot and were told that is normal. Again just plug it in and leave it alone for a few hours then see how that works...

This is a simple fix. Take the battery out for a 10 minutes. Put it back in. Plug into a wall charger for a few hours.(Leave it alone and ignore it for that time) Come back and it will work.

Ah ok then sorry I misunderstood you... again sorry if we got off on the wrong foot there I am trying to help you out.

If you could let us know after you try charging it for a few hours, or better yet do exactly what OMJ said above your post, then that would allow us to help you out some more or if it fixes it would help someone else that might be having the same problem.

Again we have seen stuff like this before and usually a good few hours on the charger left alone will solve it. Good luck...

From everything I've read about these types of batteries, is that discharging them all the way is a bad thing. If it still doesn't work after using the wall charger for a few hours and before you resort to replacing the phone I would try a different battery first.

If I may, let me ask you this then. If I take out the battery and simply plug the phone into the wall, shouldn't it turn on without any problem if it truly was the battery? What I'm saying is that I've tried taking the battery out and leaving it out anf then plugging the phone into the wall charger and it's the exact same symptom and so that's why I don't believe it's the battery.

Can someone educate me if this logic doesn't work and explain to me why it doesn't work?

On a side note. Apparently VZ doesn't carry enough inventory of the Droids anymore to take care of warranty claims in the store. They have to have a Droid sent to you in the event of a warranty claim because their inventory is so low.

Where did you hear this as I've never heard that discharging a battery is a bad thing? Did your source say why is was a bad thing to discharge the battery?

Reboot into recover and wipe the phone and start over. Take the bat out open the key board hold down the x key put bat back in while holding the x key. If it dont do that then yea the phone might be screwed up.

You are certainly being rude to the users that have tried to provide you with helpful and correct information about your cell/battery... Perhaps being so cynical towards others isn't the best phylosophy here if you want others to continue to provide help/support...

The RC ( radio control ) hobby market uses Lithium-ion and Lithium Polymer batteries in a lot of their stuff ... therefore the info they have may ( or considering your attitude towards what you've already been told, may not ) help you understand them better.... Cell phone batteries are usually just single cells, so the info about the multicell packs won't apply...

jestexman, I did just try your suggestion and I got the triangle with the exclamation mark. Can you tell me what I'm supposed to do next as this might get me all squared away? Thanks.

hold down your cam button then push the vol down. That should bring up the recovery console you should see a option for factory wipe.

If you have plugged you phone in for more than an hour and it's still at the "M" screen then it might just be stuck on stupid as i like to call it. Its called wipe factory reset. That is a hard reset.

Guys correct me if im wrong on any of this.
