Task killer final verdict

I know that there are already a ton of threads about task killers, whether or not they work, well im just telling my experiences for anyone that wants a straight answer from someone. I have used advanced task killer since the day i bought my droid and was always happy with the performance but i really had nothing to compare it too because i liked being able to kill tasks everytime i put my phone into sleep mode. Well two days ago i finally decided to uninstall atk and see what happened. Let me tell you, my droid is amazing now. It is way faster then it has ever been, no lag, smooth scrolling, its unbelievable. And my battery life is wayyy better, i unplugged it this morning at 630am and it is now 740 and after not killing any programs all day and moderate use (a ton of texting, a good hour of browser and a couple calls) i am still at 30-40% usually by now i would be down to needing a charge! it is amazing, oh and i have never had this much mb free with a task killer. i wish i wouldve grown some balls earlier and just uninstalled atk. I finally believe that the droid does not need a task killer.

Even the Eris won't benefit from task killers, because Android is Linux, which means it will automatically kill tasks by itself when it needs to.

You should keep a task killer installed though, because it's handy to have when there's a runaway app doing something wrong.

i was thinking about that but then i get into the habit of just killing everything every 5 minutes. so i decided that if i need to kill somethin ill just go through settings>running services then kill it that way

I must admit. Killing tasks has been a habit since I've gotten this phone but after reading this thread i decided to try an experiment and see if NOT killing tasks helps.
the difference is profound and immediate.

My phone is faster because apps are already running- to some degree vs. having to always start from scratch.

I plan to use the results of this experiment to change my futture behavior. I will only kill tasks if there is a problem.

In retrospect i actually think killing tasks became a habit.

btw, i didn't use the normal atk- i used APOLLO TASK KILLER which i think is actually better than ATK (advanced task killer)

it became a habit for me also, i actually like it a lot more now that im not killing any and i can just put my phone down

ATK can be a useful tool if used correctly. you need to make sure you select apps the need to be running and ignore them from ATK. While the system does a great job of managing memory and and even better job if you are using pete's scripts or the autokiller app i still find some times that i like to be able to kill off some lingering apps. one of the reasons i rooted my phone was so i could be in more control of it. bottom line is do not use ATK or any task killers if you are not going to take the time to research how they should be used. the "Droid Specialist" at my local Verizon store was less knowledgeable then me on the phone. and the second "Droid Specialist admitted he did not even own a droid. to test him i handed my phone to him when i had a non themed CM rom running and he was unable to tell me any differences. and that was before the official 2.1 came out and i was running a CM rom based on it.

I tried almost every single task killer/manager on the market since I got my droid and I've found that ATK has been the best. It's an easy interface to manage, adding something to your ignore list is a snap, and removing it is almost just as easy. I honestly keep all my favorite apps on the ignore list so they stay running if I start them up so I only ever end up killing a few random apps quite honestly and my droid has been quick and responsive.

I also noticed a big difference when I switched launchers from the other home alternatives to Helix. Between Helix and my task killer my phone is responsive, rarely force closes and generally the only lag I ever see if Im updating apps via the market where it can sometime bog down when it's downloading 3 or 4 at a time plus doing other stuff. That though I can understand and as soon as they are installed everything is great again.
