Hi guys just signed up, my 1st HTC phone and 1st android phone. Normally owned nokia, currently have nokia n900 and got desire on tuesday.

the main problem i have is the desire on wifi does not work properly, i get good signal (router in same room, d-link 615 with 50Mb connection)

some sites work bbc.co.uk works like normal but when i brows other sites, facebook, talk.maemo, quidco, ebay.. u get the idea it does not load or takes ages , we are talking mintues 1-3 mins.

this applies to apps too, some times it updates and some times it does not.

now for the funny thing. when i'm one floor below the router location everything works.

Now i have changed channels and security settings with no joy, all other device on the same router work fine, nokia n80, n900, ps3, netbook and main PC wired.

its bugging me, dunno if i should take the handset for replacement. On 3G it works fine, actually works GREAT! on voda (got the phone simfree from CPW)

Oh router is using Firmware: DD-WRT

thank you.

p.s does desire have multi notifcation LED or just green and orange?

It sounds as if the phone is a little more sensitive to interference. If the signal and connection is better when you move away, i can only suggest that something in the room's vicinity is interfering.

Check, Video Senders, DEct phones and any other kit using the 2.4ghz range.

I am assuming you can use laptops in the vicinity of the router ok?

If keyboard is lagging that could well be an issue elsewhere, software or driver related. Try factory settings reset. This worked for my wireless issue i had, must have been a little bug or summat.

  1. Turn the power off. If your HTC Desire is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Press and release the Power button
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Desire. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

Ok done some more testing and it seems its the router (using DD-wrt firmware) does not like the HTC so i pullled out the old netgear and it worked fine.

problem is i'm on 50mb and i dont get full speed with netgear on wired PC, normally download at 6.4MB per sec.

i will try and put stock firmware and test.

cheers for help.

P.S any one else using DD-WRT firmware and connecting fine on desire?

Ok i changed back to stock firmware and HTC desire is connecting fine.

So for future reference for thoughs doing google search

HTC Desire has wifi issues with D-link 615D2 Router using DD-WRT firmware

Thank you all for helping

I have the exact same problem as you with my HTC desire.

I am using a Asus RT-N16 with firmware DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/23/10) mega - build 13972

All my other PCs, laptop, iphones, nokia n95 works perfectly. The only problem is with this Desire, especially when using the Webkit browser. Using Opera mini seems to have lesser disconnection but Opera is buggy..

Now i am still reluctant to reflash to stock firmware as i have too many server on dd-wrt that i need.

I cant dump RT-N16, I cant dump Desire... maybe just have to add another wireless router just for Desire?.. lost.

Resetting phone. changing channels. changing power levels. nothing makes any difference. I have HTC Desire and DLink 615 D2 - DD-Wrt, I have tried several versions of DD-Wrt to no avail.

Interestingly. if I'm in a different room. i.e. with a solid brick wall between me and router. it works 90% of time. If I sit closer to the router. the only way to make it work (it never disconnects, always has an IP address) is to cover the back of the phone with my hand, which I'm guessing blocks some of the signal.

I have tried the router on tx power output. No difference.
I looked at what else is broadcasting in my area, and there is nothing on channel 11. and nothing with close to the power I have from my Dlink. Time for the DD-Wrt guys to get to the bottom of this. As people who get DD-Wrt are of course the people who want the HTC Desire.
