I keep getting a notification tone and have no idea which app it is coming from. My phone sounds the notification, but nothing ever appears in the status bar to let me know which one it is. I have sooooo many apps, and have been through them all and still do not know which app is playing this annoying notification. I've looked at the list of tones I have, but none of them are the one that keeps going off! Anyone know of a way to detect active notification tones?

Sometimes, when roaming notification is on, it can buzz if you lost and reconnected to your data service.

Perhaps you could try Notification History app, see if you can catch the app that does it.

Once installed, try to check it as soon as you hear it.
Let us know if you managed to identify the rascal app.

There was a discussion about the same thing happening with the HTC One. It turned out to be the alarms in GSAM battery monitor app. Do you have that installed? If so, open the app and go to preferences. You can turn off the alarms in there. Might not be the same problem but is something to look at.

I just downloaded this app, so here's hoping it works. I'll post again and mention the problem if it can locate the culprit. I guess I also should have mentioned that my model is an AT&T SGH-I337 (not rooted).

Thank you for your input!

I just deleted a battery management app last night. I wouldn't have thought that this kind of app would trigger notification tones. If I no longer am receiving them, then I know what it was. The app I deleted was the Mugen Power battery management app.

Thanks for the info!

Okay, so I found the source of the notification tone! It was the Yahoo! Mail app. There is a check-box if you want Yahoo! Mail notifications in the status bar enabled/disabled, but you also have to disable the tone manually. I only found it by serendipity on my other phone. I had the notification checked on my Infuse, and noticed that when it showed up in the status bar, that same tone chimed-in. The notification detection app never picked-up on it (with the check-box disabled).

Glad that quest is done! Now I can continue on with my WOW quests :D

I had the phantom notification noises problem with my rooted Samsung galaxy S4.

I was able to make them stop by going into my phone's accessibility settings. There was a setting that was checked to repeatedly make the notification noise for unread notifications. That must have gotten messed up somehow because my phone would not shut up about nonexistent notifications. I simply unchecked that setting and the problem was fixed.

GOT IT! I had a repeating tone driving me crazy and after checking the forums it appeared that the only option was to turn to silent.

Just figured out that it is happening because I recently added one of those card holders to the case to hold a credit or access card. The problem is that the new phones can act as a paywave / proximity card and reader, so when I have a credit card or other electronic proximity card next to the phone, the unit notifies you again and again that the card has been read.

FIX FOR ME...

Thank you Lanky for the recommendation of the Notification History App. I had changed my email password and my Galaxy S6 was making the notification sound every time it was trying to update. For some reason my phone didn't display the notification that it was unable to log into the email account but the Notification History App picked it up.

Thanks again.
