Help Google Voice on wi-fi only?

I'm getting a Nexus One without service and wanted to know if it could be used with Google Voice or Skype or some other voip client without having to signup for service on that phone. Possible?

You could, you would need a Gizmo5 account and set up an SIP application like SIPagent or SIPdroid.

Skype isn't on Android yet but another application I know of to make free WiFi calls is Vonage.

You wouldn't use Google Voice for either of these options though. Google voice would only be needed if you wanted to receive calls, but if you just want to make calls then you dont need it.

Absolutely! I used my Nexus One for a couple months without a cell carrier and made several calls over WiFi. It was awesome.

As someone already posted Google Voice is not a VoIP service but can be used with other services to make free VoIP calls. I currently also use Google Voice for unlimited SMS text messages. It's great. There is no official Skype app for Android (The verizon only one still doesn't count to me since they removed wifi calling). Fring and Nimbuzz allow you to make Skype calls but they both have their flaws.

Details on how to use Google Voice to make VoIP calls and my feedback on different VoIP configurations are in my blog. A link is in my sig.
