Micro SD Issues

Hi, I'm on my second Desire in 3 weeks!

The first started turning itself off and could only be restarted by removing & reinserting the battery. The second started doing the same!!

After a bit of research I've determined that the problem is in fact the 16GB micro SD card I have inserted, which I am told by Orange the Desire cannot handle & is a known fault, even though the spec says it'll cope with 32GB, the actual limit is 8GB. Is this true?

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Putting the original 4GB card back in solves the problem.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I'm even more perplexed now than before. So the guy at Orange is talking rubbish!

The 16GB card is a Sandisk card and works fine on the p.c. It's been formatted on my Desire and my Desire can read it ok (when it works).
I will run h2testw on it shortly.

Would the fact that it's an SDHC card make any difference?

HC stands for high capacity, from above 2GB to 32GB, so you won't find a 16GB SD. (Though I have seen listings for, say, 8GB and 16GB SD cards, but if you look further they're actually SDHC.) Are you sure it's a SD card?

I have encountered problems with SD cards being properly recognized when they being moved around a lot and inserted in card readers, different PCs (especially between XP and Win7) and mobile devices. Now, when I buy a SD card for one device I leave it inserted all the time and prefer connecting the device itself to the PC to access it. If I decide to use it in a different device (e.g. from phone to digicam) I insert it in the new device and format it there.

I have a 16GB SDHC Sandisk in my Desire and have never taken it out. Works like a charm.

I also just put a 16GB MicroSDHC card in my Desire, also from Hong Kong.

Foolish.

Whenever I connect to my PC (via phone) and try to write more than a few MB's of data to the card it corrupts, and requires formatting. Been trying to get my 3GB of data on there for 48 hours now, about to give up and put my old 4GB card back in.

Protip - Don't buy cheap memory on ebay.
