Well I just received my Nexus One on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours I have noticed an odd issue that the case doesn't seem to line up on the back under the metal strip. Its where the plastic and the strip come together on part that has the HTC logo, they don't line up and there seems to be a small visible space. Its more prevalent on the left and there also seems to be some degree of flex on the left side.

So i just wanted some input if this seems normal or ok. Should I be calling HTC and attempting to get it replaced?

I can attempt to provide a picture if that would help explain.

Yes, I have that issue too :( A little bit bothersome...but nothing I can't live with. The build quality of the N1 is sooo nice but not perfect : < The gap is about 0.5mm and i can fit the tip of my nail in XD

I also have this issue as well: On the side of the case near the volume switch, the battery cover doesn't meet smoothly with the front of the case.

and >_> the top of the phone, when I put pressure on it...it creaks

The only reason why I haven't called HTC and sent it back for another one...actually I don't even know if they will...well if they do...I'm not sure if the refurb will have other defects/issues...these are just minor cosmetic issues XD

Well I don't see what your problem is. I'm just trying to get a little feedback while I am still within my 14 days to return the device. If other people have this problem and it has not gotten worse over the period they have owned it, then that would go a long way towards easing my mind.

As you can see, on the left side there is a decent space and you can see the "tongue" that holds the plastic in place under the metal strip

I don't think you need to worry about the gap getting worst. I have my Nexus for a month and the gap hasn't widen if that is what you are afraid of.

Yeah, thats a large part of what was scaring me. I'm also sorta worried about debris getting in there and the amount of flex that panel seems to have by the gap.

Also, does anyone else's Nexus get really hot when charging?

Yes, u r right about that gap. Mine does not have it.
And yes, it is getting very hot while charging, but only when some apps are running, like Navigation. Mine gets really hot when charging in Car dock. But it did not explode yet...........;)

mine is completely flush. no gap. i would exchange it.
as for the heat, mine gets pretty hot when charging initially but then it cools down after about 30mins or so.

Well I talked to HTC and they were super nice. I am having the phone replaced, should be here tuesday or so.

How is the replacement process? Do they ship you the new phone and you put your old one in the package when you get the new one? Or you have to send your phone in first and how much is the delivery cost...I remember that you have to pay for delivery? o_O

The process is just as you described. They send a new device in a small box, you pull your SIM, SD, batt and back cover, put them on the new device and send the old one back in the same box.

You only have to pay shipping costs if they determine that your issue is not under warranty or manufacturing defect. In that case they will send the original back to you.
