Calendar app problem

Hi,

I love my HTC Magic, but struggle with the calendar app. I had already created a google calendar before I bought my Magic, but can find no way of adding this calendar so I can view/edit it. I can only seem to add and remove the gmail one I created when first starting up the phone.

Any ideas how I do this - all I want to do is use my existing google calendar (which I login to using my yahoo mail account address) without having to transfer the lot into the gmail one I created on the phone.

You have me confused ... How are you logging into your Gmail Calendar with a yahoo mail account ...

You can use the Browser to log directly into Yahoo or Gmail ... without uses a gmail or yahoo Pop account on the phone ....

It is definately not clear what you are trying to do (to me at least) maybe you can describe it better for others to take a shot at ...

I think Steve means he has a Google account (as opposed to a Google Mail account) for which the username is a yahoo e-mail address. I easily sync'd my Google calendar but I think it's because I have a Google Mail account which I use to log into GMail, Market etc. from my phone and my Google Calendar is found under the same Google account...

Sadly I don't know enough about the syncing myself (I'm new) to answer Steve's question but I think (and hope) this clarifies what he's trying to say?

Hey guys. Newbie to Android from BB. Very excited to join the community.

-to the OP, this can be accomplished very simply, in a few ways. The easiest way that addresses just the calendar sync is to create a free account at Plaxo. Plaxo - Stay in touch with the people you care about. After you sign up, go to the Calendar tab. Find "add sync points" at the bottom. Give your Google Calendar/account credentials. It's safe. Make sure you have the Google Calendar sync with your Plaxo calendar, not create its own google calendar on Plaxo. Set it up so Plaxo auto-syncs with your GCal
Next, when that's done. Add a sync point for Yahoo. Set it up the same way to sync with your Plaxo calendar and to auto sync.
Plaxo has 2-way sync for both calendars, so now, any appointment you add in any of the 3 places, Yahoo desktop, Plaxo desktop, or Gcal-desktop or Android phone, will be reflected in all 3 places, as Plaxo will auto sync all the calendars once or twice an hour. If you choose, you never have to log into Plaxo again and the sync will continue via Plaxo's servers, meaning your computer doesn't have to be turned on.
BTW, this also works with Windows Live Hotmail PIM

You can also set up Contacts sync in Plaxo this way. However, Plaxo has 2-way contact sync with yahoo, but only 1-way with Google Contacts. So, if you set up to auto-sync, contacts created on your phone will reflect in yahoo, but changes made in yahoo will not reflect on your phone.

Another option to sync just the calendars is to subscribe to your GCal iCal feed in Yahoo Calendar, and subscribe to your Yahoo Calendar feed in Gcal. Your cal will be read-only in the other place. So, you'll be managing 2 cals, but both will be visible in the other place. So, if you add an event on your phone in Gcal, you'll be able to see it but not change it in Yahoo, and vica versa.
I'd go with Plaxo, though. It essentially becomes 1 calendar shared in 3 places that they auto update for you.

Let me know if you need further help. There are other ways to get it done if you use Outlook or Thunderbird. However, these require you pc to be on to have the items sync.

All I want to do is add this calendar to the calendar app on the phone - rather than the gmail account which was setup when I got the phone.

I'm the same way, I've got a google calendar and my phone won't sync with my phone's calendar.

I just found this on a google forum:
"The task "calendar" is not a real google calendar and it will only be
visible when you are using a computer. The only way to see tasks on
a phone is to use the browser or some app made for the phone."

Well... SUCK!

I think if you add your yahoo log in Google account calendar to your gmail account calendar for your phone you will see that calendar sync for you. I would think when you added something it would only post to your gmail calendar account and not the yahoo account.
You might try porting over the calendar to your new gmail and run with that.

PS. go into calendar settings and you can choose what calendars sync from your gmail account.

Why don't you just log into your google cal and share it with your gmail account. Then you can use the stock android calendar app to see both calendars.
