Root System Crashes on 5.1.1 Roms

is anyone else having issues with system crashes on all the 5.1.1 Roms? Basically the phone freezes and the led is blinking green and red. I have to manually reboot phone by holding the power button.
This was happening to me frequently as well. I later noticed it was while I was using the phone while charging most of the time. The problem is the kernel. Switching to the kernel from hroarks cm rc5 will fix it. I did that by pulling the boot.IMG out of that ROM zip and flashing it via an app called flashify. Fixed the problem immediately. All other kernels will lead to overheating issues on this phone, at least as of now.

Seeing as though they're saying that switching to the old kernel makes it work just fine. I assume so. I doubt it's anyhting other than them being at a higher clockspeed then stock plus charging their phones.
So I just confirmed that the inherent kernel in the AICP ROM is not overclocked at install, is still overheating, and I have never tampered with the max frequency. I wish your theory about overclocking was valid but unfortunately it is not. Any other ideas?

That's strange. I never had any issues with overheating with the Cm 12.1 based ROMS. Only while charging. What's your ambient temperature like? Is it above the 90s? My phone would tend to overheat very badly when my ambient temps were hot.

It is very seldom that it overheats without charging. When it is charging I can use the phone for maybe 5 seconds sometimes and it will shut down. I live in the mountains of Colorado and it has not been hot lately. Ambient temp doesn't seem to matter.

Edit: its starting to seem like a voltage issue based on our findings

I am currently running the pacrom 5.1.1 with the cm rc5 kernel and have been able to disable the CPU hotplug and the core control for the kernel using the built in kernel adiutor.

I have been able to stay on my charger, hotspot and play order and chaos 2 at full speed without the thermal throttle kicking in.

The hottest my phone got was 180 degrees Fahrenheit and still no lag. It stays at max frequency.

You also need to set the battery to performance mode for this to work BTW.

I've had no problems with the rc5 kernel. Its all other kernels that give issues.

I'm now on the brokenos ROM with the included kernel and its the only way I've been able to move away from rc5 kernel without issue. Brokenos performs better by far than any other ROM btw

I have ran Butternoob, AICP, most versions of the CM 12, Carbon, RR etc. Most of whats been released to try them out. I never ran into this black screen with alternating LED's until last night. A reboot and it was back to normal. I am currently running Broken 3.9. The phone was in my pocket and I work overnights, indoors. The likelihood of it overheating I find slim, but who knows. I'm doing another clean flash of 3.9, and see how things go from there.

For what it's worth, I must agree BrokenOS has been awesome and is my daily. I Love the features, I personally see a battery improvement over CM, and signal bars comparable to Stock. It's the Rom I have been waiting for. The only negative observation I have found is it's laggy at times. Especially when waking up from idle. When my phone "wakes" it will display the wrong time for a few seconds, like its showing me the time from when I last looked. When I receive a call my phone rings but the screen is completely black until about the third ring, then it will display who is calling. Again, no tweaks, no mods, default install, even run a broken wallpaper :p "Society Is Broken". I DO use the pattern lockscreen, if that helps any. It hasn't "crashed" until last night, which surprised me. Never seen my phone do that before.

I'm sorry about the issues that you're are having I haven't ran into that. I can tell you that this weekend is gonna most likely gonna be the last lp build and we will see what happens from there.

Don't be sorry, loving the rom and extremely thankful for your builds. Redoing my phone now, have a hunch it might be the lockscreen method I use. I haven't seen anyone else mention the same things I have. I hope your development doesn't end for this phone. I know you recently got your hands one. :p The Zmax has a great community around it, and it has come a long way.
Yeah I will probably have ever this phone a little while. Not bad for the price I paid for it either.
