Root Can't Tell if I'm Rooted or Not

I was at .605 and I wanted to update to .621 but I had deleted some apps in the past so I SBF'd back to .602, rooted using Pete's Motorola Root Tools v1.07, OTA'd back up to .605 and now cannot tell if I am rooted.

When I go into TE and type 'su' I get "access denied'. But I have the SU app, and Titanium and Titanium works (freezes, backup, etc) I also have Android Overclock and it works. When I go into Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, 'Device Rooted" is checked but 'Root Permission Granted' is not. Also, when I touch 'Protect Root' it tells me 'root su protected' but there is not a checkmark next to 'Protected su copy available'.

I also check Root Check Basic and it said I am not rooted.

WTF? I am like stuck halfway in between rooted and not. What should I do to make sure it is fully rooted and protected so that I can maintain my root when I OTA to .621?

Hello Clinster. I'd jump all over the thing (not literally, although I've felt like doing that at times ) and start completely over, after using Titanium backup and other methods to preserve needed data.

It sounds like the s=on is what's up, so re-rooting from stock may be necessary. Like I say, I'm the type who just starts completely over when I see mixed signals like you say you're getting such as "access denied" on su in the terminal, but still getting the "device rooted" report from the root checker.

I think I may have figured it out. I deleted SU from my apps (which didn't really delete it obviously, just the app launcher). I then downloaded SU Elite (why not, right?) and then rebooted and when it came back up, it is showing root access through and allowed me to protect my root in Voodoo (verified in TE). It is unpacking the .621 OTA right now, we'll see if it allows me to restore my root once it comes back up.

The next question is which ROM to go with. I have never used a ROM before, simply rooted to remove bloat. Any good simple ROMs for a newb whene everything works or at least minimal tinkering to get it working?

there is no way to root the .621 ota, and there are no roms currently, a root method still needs to be found, as root keeper is not a good method to keep root.

i replied to your other threads about your situation, and they are the best answers you will see.

since you took the update, you are stuck on it for quite some time, as downgrading can no longer happen now.

Voodoo root keeper worked perfect for me. I am on. 621 rooted and running good. I figured as much on the ROMs but im sure they'll be some out soon.

Voodoo root keeper worked perfect for me. I am on. 621 rooted and running good. I figured as much on the ROMs but im sure they'll be some out soon.

yes it keeps root, it does not root your device, as you have to do other methods to get it to work, and it is not a true root method. we need to find a stable one

What's the difference between keeping the root and rooting the device? My phone is as stable as can be at .621 rooted OC'd to 1300Mhz with reduced voltage, currently chilling at 84

The difference is that once you are on 621, you are stuck. If devs run into a problem and need to SBF, they have to SBF with 621. Once you do that, you lose root and can't get it back. Root keeper won't keep root during an SBF.

So, without a 621 root method, ROMs aren't coming.

After taking 621...
when you do a factory reset, do you return back to 621 or back to the version when you purchased the device?

but if your rooted on stock .621 you return to stock .621 rooted. factory data wipe doesnt remove root. unless this version is different, no version has ever removed root on a factory data wipe

I use nexus 4 and rooted but when I use rooted app it said u not rooted. And I go to my SuperSU app it say there is no SU binary installed. What should I do. And when I go to my voodoo OTA Rootkeeper app its only check superuser app installed and /system supports root protection. What should I do?
