Well, it's official! The new Android OS, Marshmallow, will be released next week!

    October 5th, to be exact.

Motorola has said that the Moto X Pure will be among the first devices to receive the update, since it's carrier-unlocked and has no bloat to get in the way.

I don't know about you, but I look forward to the update! Most of all, switching devices will be a breeze, because Android 6 will back up apps and app DATA, meaning that your apps will install on the new phone exactly the way they were on your old phone! How awesome is that?

    What are your thoughts? :)

The OTA rollout begins on Nexi in 3 days. Motorola has announced to have the XPE on Android 6.0 by the end of the year... but it could be a matter of weeks!

I'm super pumped about that Doze feature. The battery on my MXPE has been getting me through a full day, but I'd love to have some extra juice at the end of the night. Right now I'm ending on about 9-10%.

Good points there. What kind of issues have you been having?

Sometimes when I press the power button after the phone's been idle for a long time, the screen goes pixely like those old TV's did when they didn't have anything to show, all black and white, but this only happens for a millisecond or so but it's noticeable. And I noticed the phone closes apps even though it's not supposed to, memory leak? And the face detection doesn't work very well, I always have to "enhance" it for different lighting settings, but that only seems to overwrite the previous face I had.

And some apps remain open in the background even though I haven't opened some of them in over 24 hours...

I can't speak to most of those issues, but I can say the pixel/old tv thing, it's a moto x issue over all, I had the 2013 and it did that occasionally. A buddy has the 14 and it too, occasionally has that issue. It doesn't hurt anything, does not effect performance. It's odd, sometimes annoying, but not (that I have found) a big deal.

Oh man, I hate to hear that you are having all of those problems. That would be driving me nuts. Fortunately, I haven't seen anything like that. I hope you're right about the software update fixing all of that. I'm only having one problem, but I'm thinking it may be on Google's side of things. I keep getting a text message from "Sender Unknown" with the message "service denied". I received it Sunday evening and when deleted it goes away, but as soon as I receive another text message from a friend or someone and I open the app the "Sender Unknown" message pops up at the bottom of my thread in bold like it's a message that hasn't been read. It continues to show the same date and time from Sunday evening. This happens in both the Google Messenger app (which I prefer) and the Google Hangouts app. It doesn't however, do this using the stock Motorola Messenger app, which leads me to think it has something to do with Google services. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the apps a couple of times to no avail. If I archive the message I don't see it, but if I delete it from archives it starts all over again. I really don't want to do a factory reset if I don't have to, but I will if necessary I guess. I've reached out on the Motorola forums and have tried a few of their suggestions, but nothing has worked so far. I don't mind the Motorola messaging app, but I really like the look and feel of the Google Messenger and Hangouts app. So.... I have no idea what's going on.

I just wish I knew why it was happening

    :/ that really sucks...

By the way, me saying Marshmallow will fix these issues is just wishful thinking.

Oh, and if you rotate the screen while sound is playing it will mute for a second...

And any idea on how to improve battery life??? The screen uses way too much.

My screen on time has been hovering around 3 hr. 15 min average. I have gotten close to 4 hrs. with some moderate use, but I don't push the phone too hard anyway. I usually take it off the charger at around 6:30 am and put it back on the charger around 10:00 pm and by that time I have right around 10% battery life left. I don't play games or have a ton of apps installed. I cache data and close apps all the time and have my screen set around 50%. Again, I don't use it heavily, but I don't baby it either. It would be nice to have some juice left in reserve at the end of the night though I agree.

Yeah if it weren't for the screen this thing would last forever :p

Apparently you can be eligible for selection and inclusion in the soak test if you register your device at Motorola, become a member of their feedback network thingy, and opt in your device. I did that... waiting for the good news that I was selected :D

I hope they pick my phone for the soak test - I've always enjoyed being the guinea pig for new technology!

Let us know if they fix the screen draining the battery issue and if they made the ram management better... (I shouldn't be seeing apps reload on a 3 GB phone, but I am...)

Nothing here either. They may have enough testers out there already, or they don't want to push this out over the Columbus Day* weekend.

I personally cannot STAND Columbus Day for two reasons: first of all Columbus never set foot on the American mainland. He discovered the islands now known as the West Indies, thinking he'd found a shortcut to India. Second, there is overwhelming evidence of Viking settlements that predate Columbus' voyage by hundreds of years. If anything, it should be called Leif Ericsson Day. My 2¢ :D
