I'm a young guy who wants to sink his roots into the rooting world.

I know there is many confusion on here about "rooting", and as I have read throughout the forums, there are "many" ways of getting this done.

For all that are tired of these questions, there be a definite way to post a sticky for those that follow.

From what I have gathered, there are usb drivers that must be downloaded and installed. When I install them, I see that they are up to date. I have used the usbdreview to uninstall them, but they just dont want to uninstall. I have tried uninstalling them with and without my behold connected.

I also understand that after one has passed the drivers stage, they are encouraged to download the SU file and drop it into their phone's sd location.

Then I have read about two files, try3 and superuser.apk, that are placed into the androidskd file located on the computer.

Then I know that there is some session with the cmd prompt that usually confuses the hell out of everyone lol (including myself at times).

Then there is this odin flasher thing. I heard that If you use is, you would not need to do anything else except install the drivers.

But then I read that BH_man said that if you use Odin, you will loose the the ability to use the try3 file.

I guess what I'm asking for is a complete set of instructions of the BEST way to get android 1.6 or higher on my phone. I do not care for 1.5 anymore, its what Tmobile/samsung/Google left us all to die with and I want to show them that we will not be neglected...we will stand up and fight and will come together in a time of need against those that oppose us all.

what about it beholders? you have found the light along with others gifted as yourself, now help pave the way for others that follow in your footsteps so that we may all enjoy the fruits of the tree.

(I also just want Google Navigation with a faster UI :D )

wow you are all over the place!

first of all everything quoted above is of NO use! it is either not needed or not possible after the ota upadte.

now people need to stop miss quoting bh_man as i'm sure that is one of the many reasons he needs a break! what he said was that after the samsung/tmo ota update try3/asroot no longer works, which has nothing to do with odin!!!!! because of this try3 is not used in any 1.6 rom or the update files!! but odin has nothing to do with that exploit working or not, samsung just closed the hole.

now if you want root it comes through bh_man's custom kernels and is built into all his roms! root is problematic though and not 100% but damn close.

seriously...just wow...militant much? i don't know what to say about all this...first tmo and samsung don't care so you can go ahead and stand up but all you'll get is tired legs! plus they are aware that bh_man has released 1.6, don't kid yourself.

and as for your question...i guess you should try reading the stickys as all you want to know is already posted guy.

I dont mean to exactly quote BH_Man, i just mean to paraphrase, and I do a bad job at that sometimes too.

I understand that rooting isn't 100%, but I hear so many good things about BH_Man's roms, i'm interested.

So since the ota update, do we just use odin and not everything else i have been researching?

I've been trying to looking into the forums of how to get this done but i end up with more questions.

So is wareheads like another application similar to odin? I would just like to use odin, do some of BH_man's roms use only war heads or can you use odin on all of them.

Thank you for your time your very kind.

rleal2010, If you're looking to get a better version of Android on your BH2, then you've come to the right forum. BH_MAN's ROM's are the SH&%$T! I just loaded up the Galaxy 1.6 R11 ROM and it's SWEEEEETTT! I'm lovin it!!! Anyway... I'm not an expert, but I think I can help you with this. I can sympathies with your confussion, but it's not as hard as you're making out to be. You need to understand there's a slight possibility of bricking your phone, but if you're up to risk??

First things first, we need to get your drivers straightened out. Answer a couple questions for me. What version of windows are you running? What happens when you plug your phone into the computer, does it say new hardware found or what??? Have you downloaded the Android SDK and ODIN installer yet?

yes odin is the key. download the rom you want and install it with odin using the instructions on the forum. that is all you need to do! you don't even need the android sdk at all to flash one of these roms, but down the road you will want it trust me. but to get flashed all you need is:

-drivers
-odin mulit downloader
-rom of your choice

Ok some more info about what I have and experienced.

I am running windows vista home basic.

I understand that there are two usb modes, mass storage and samsung pc mode.

When I plugged in my phone in the first time (mass storage mode) it said that all drivers were successfully installed.

I could go to My Computer and see "removable disk" and double click it to see what was on my behold.

I read somewhere about restarting windows vista in test mode, but I dont know how credible that was.

When I bring up the cmd prompt and type in c:/ adroidsdk/ tools/adb devices, it shows me "SGH-T939 device" under List of Devices attached

Now I must ask you this, in using Odin, i have read two different instructions.

When do put my phone into download mode, (using the volume down key combination)?

I start Odin, then i click on OPS, and load the OPS file.
With the PDA file, is the extention .tar?

so All i would need is those two and then I would click on start to flash my phone?

so this is my final understand of flashing of the rom.

I connect my phone to the usb in the "mass storage mode?"
I open ODIN.
I load up the .op (OP) and the .tar file (PDA).
I click start
I then reboot my phone into download mode? ......that sounds like a one way ticket to bricking my phone, where did i go wrong?

I see you are using 1.6 w/Touchwiz, how is the speed on that rom? How stable has it been for you?

I've used stock and galaxy but i need vib and the camera so i went back to stock and with some mods of my own i've got it running smooth and stable...but slow. stock 1.6 probably is the most stable (at least for me it is), but also the slowest. now i have used galaxy 1.6 r4, r10, r11. r 4 was the most stable for me and r10 was the fastest. it all depends on what you are looking for.

no, no, no...connect the phone with it turned off all together

open odin...load files as needed...turn on phone by pressing vol. dwn+ok+end/pwr and hold them til download mode appears. then press start on odin...phone will reboot itself

Ok, so I found BH_man's instructions for this! :)

1. Open up Odin Multi Download <--------Do I have my phone connect in PC mode before starting Odin?

2. Under Select OPS, choose Behold2_partition.ops
3. Click PDA, choose the PDA File you are Trying to Flash Rather it Be BH_MAN Rom / or Stock
4. Power Off Phone<----I don't press start on the Odin until step 8
5. Make sure you have it connected via USB
6. Hold and Press Volume Down, OK, Power (the red end button)
7. Phone will say Download Mode
8. Click Start on Odin Multi Downloader.
9. Wait a couple of minutes
10. Stock Touchwiz phone working again!

Screw it, part of being a flasher is having the guts to follow your instincts, i'm going for it!!! wish me luck!!! :s *Fingers crossed*

rleal, I've found doing the instructions:

Number 1 RULE when Changing Rom's....
1. FUlly Charge Before doing an ODIN....
2. Let It Fully Die and Power Off & Charge Full while Off..
3. When Possible, use 2G when not using Web & Market
for longer Battery Life.
4. Doing the above will Show major Improvements!

very helpful in increasing battery life. In my experience!

Also I think the no sleep bug still applies, even with R11 ROM. Charge at night with your phone off or reboot in the morning.

behold_this, thanks for the safe flight wishes. Flying's the easy part, it's the PARTYING in Canada that really hurts! LOL!
