Need major help. exhausted all resources!!!

I hate for my first post to be a question, but i have a problem. I have searched all over to find a way to fix it. I have been trying to root my hero. Both manually and auto. Everytime i get the following results...


Manually
when i try to root manually i the serial number is correct and then when i enter the following this is what i get


c:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb push asroot2/data/local/
cannot stat 'asroot2': No such file or directory

I have downloaded all the files multiple times and still the same result. Hell i even tried it on a different computer same result. So i figured i would try the auto root.

Auto Root
when i tried to auto root i ran fresh pre kitchen 0.2. i did the diagnostic it came back good. So i did the auto root and it said this..
-failed to push files properly. reboot try again. visit geekforme.com for help.
went to geekforme.com and here and found no result for either problem. Please help.. I would really like to root my phone. thanks

First...have you downloaded the SDK folder? If so, then have you put the asroot2 file in the tools folder of the sdk folder? I bet that is your problem.

no done that already. i did everything in the guide multiple times just to make sure i didnt miss anything

hmmm...really strange. lemme think a minute. (When did you buy your phone?) If it's brand new, it might be one of the phones that they've created a patch for so people cant root.

Have you tried any of these methods? If you scroll down on that page, there are about 6 methods to root your phone.

ok i got my phone rooted. something with the anitvirus software i guess cause when i disabled it the file were found. but now i have a new problem. trying to install rom. tried fresh 2.0 and damagecontrol 2.08 and everytime it says no zip files found from root menu of phone

Download Rom, place rom in the root of your sd card, then shutoff phone and push and hold home button+ push and release power button until you are into the recovery menu and wipe everything and flash zip!

Anything else just ask!

Make sure your SD card is unmounted!

Make sure you are not putting the zip in any folders. If it's in the "download" folder, you can't flash it. It needs to be directly on your sd card....not in any folders. Try that.

Are you coming from 1.5 or did you do the 2.1RUU?

I assume that you have the option in the recovery menu to flash a rom from the SD card right?

it says flash zip from sdcard. Is that the same??

You can mount the SD card again, and then use Windows explorer on your computer to make sure that you do have xyz.zip on the SD card.

im using the one it told me to download in the guide on this site. and yes i have used windows explorer already the files are on my sd card. atleast it shows them on there when i mount it the the computer but once i reboot my phone into recovery it says no files found on sd card

when using windows explorer, what folder are the files in? and just to be clear, you did NOT unzip them correct?

the are on my e: drive which is a removable disk drive, my sd card and no i didnt unzip them.

ok i have no idea what i did differently but i just repeated the whole process again for about the tenth time and it finally worked. I did everything exactly as i did before so i am completely confused. But i finally got damagecontrol installed. i appreciate everyone help thank you

there is supposed to be a space between 'asroot2' and '/data/local/' if that was a copy/paste

Correct. It is that way in the guide, with the space. This is why I suggest people copy and paste the commands instead of typing them. Typing leaves room for user error (no offense) while cut in paste does not (technically )
