Help I have the Moment but think I would be better off with the EVO because the moment is

having issues. It got the airplane mode on the first week and has frozen on me twice. It is an updated cupcake phone. I have been on phone with tech support for a total of 4 hours so far with the phone. They blamed airplane mode on me (later i learned this is a known issue). I have only downloaded a few apps, task killer, craigslist, etc. I am being conservative with the phone. I missed several important phone calls during the freezes.

My 4 year old katana broke on April 26 and I needed a phone. Ran into sprint store and picked up the moment. I am not a techie and thought I would like to try a data/msg phone because i do use the internet often. I have become familiar with the phone and like the data/msg part, as well as the keyboard (can't see). I like the android platform, although the initial learning curve was frustrating. Can't afford ATT and iPhone.

It seems like the update to fix this phone may not come before my 30 day trial. But it seems the EVO might not make it in time either.

My options are to trade the moment in for another moment or other phone and this was recommended by tech support. My 30 day satisfaction policy will not renew with new phone.

I am wondering, time wise, how to work my 30 day trial to get the EVO. I am renewing sprint customer and had a $150 credit with Sprint to get phone and expired contract for the last year, which also renewed. I am also waiting to see if they apply my employee discount on the next billing cycle. I should be a premier customer by now. They are supposed to bill me for the moment. I paid nothing up front.

Any moment people trading their phone in due to lack of dependability issues? I chose moment because of the keyboard over the Hero.

A buddy of mine got a Moment and has had zero issues. He's still on 1.5. I liked the phone and got one too. Powered off within 24 hours and would not turn back on. Had to get a new phone. Worked well for a while and then started acting glitchy and would constantly drop the radio. Turned out it was because of the "movies" app that apparently causes radio issues. Took off the app and reset the phone. Updated to 2.1 and root and too some of the bloatware out and I have what seems like a great phone. I know some people have had different issues.

Umm, I think you salesperson 'wiggled' a bit on your deal as you shouldn't be billed a cent for a new Moment. If I remember correctly, the in-store price on the Moment was $149.99 with a $100 MIR making it $49.99 after rebate now. At least that's what it was at the store I go to.

With your $150 credit, you should owe nothing.

And doubles on the 'issues with smartphones comment' above. Every one of these things has issues. I do have to admit, a signal lock up is the worst of the worst, but Sprint isn't going to say that the 'airplane mode lockup' is a known issue, because it's not airplane mode - exactly. The true issue is that their patch for 1.5 to CDMA is flawed. Since setting Task Killer to reset the entire process, I've only had the CDMA lock one time. Might be worth looking into for everyone else.

Good Luck and enjoy the moment!

Considering the EVO is not even out yet, how do you know the EVO will be any better or have fewer problems. For all you know the EVO is gonna be a big steaming pile of [~].

Until we know anything real world on the EVO, then everything is just specualtion. don't think anyone can actually recommend you switch as noone has done so themselves.

I tried the Incredible over the weekend (very similar to the EVO except no 4g). It's amazingly fast, great Sense experience, and overall a real beast. I'm probably going to get the EVO but I'll stick with my Moment since I really love the keyboard. But with apps like Swype keyboards will probably become more scarce. Its true that the EVO will probably have its share or bugs/problems, its seems HTC has a lot of love/support for its Android devices compared to Samsung. Just my 2 cents. :)

EVO is made by HTC.

HTC's stuff is pretty sound so far. Only really legit complaint I've heard of the Hero was that dust could get inside the case.

Yeah.... And everyone trusted Toyota to be the most reliable car company until that debacle last year. All it takes is one bad phone, and suddenly a company's name becomes veiled in doubt and despise. The reverse of this can also be said, a great phone can be released and elevate a once untrusted brand.

My statement was mearly to illustrate that it is pointless to ask what folks think is the best choice, when noone even knows for sure as of yet.

Sure we have some people giving mini-reviews of a prototype that they got to try out for a minute or two, they are all praising it as a game changer, but this kinda of thing happens with every new phone... Remember the coverage the Moment was getting before release? The Instinct? Just about any phone that has some hype behind it, we never hear anything bad until after it has been released.

No need to go around touting the HTC flag for an unreleased product.

And sorry, dust beneath the glass is a huge issue, to me. This shows the lax quality control the HTC has.

Media frenzy aside, there has been no proof that Toyota is at fault for the issue. They are merely replacing the gas pedal assembly as a preventative measure.

I see what you were trying to say, however, but I disagree. Toyota jumped in and came up with a fix to a problem that probably doesn't exist and for that I would continue to trust them. Likewise, HTC has made some pretty neat phones in the past, continues to do so, and from the rumors going around, already has a 2.1 update ready, but is getting sidelined while we wait for Samsung.

By the way, the Moment got 0 coverage before release. There were some online quick vids of it at expos, but Sprint and Samsung barely acknowledged it existed. Dust in the case was an issue that would be hard to test without long term testing, something that isn't done. The Moment's issues, on the other hand, could have been found in less than 3 hours of use. That's how long it took me to find them.

So people are imagining their cars running away now? Companies don't make recalls without reason. I know someone who had their Toyota accelerate out of control. Blew the engine too. So it is definitely a problem, and since Toyota made the car, it is their fault. Drive by wire is too risky IMO. God forbid if they start putting out cars with brake by wire or steer by wire.

Lol, I still love Toyota, I have a 1966 FJ40 that is the greatest vehicle I have ever owned. I used that example to merely show that consumers found/thought they found problems and now Toyota is doing damage control trying to recover their good name. I agree though Toyota< I believe> did nothing wrong and their vehicle were not faulty. The average Joe Schmoe thinks otherwise now.

And I did alot of research on the Moment before it came out, and there was plenty of youtube videos and the like about it, you just had to look for it.

I still stand by my point that noone here can comment on whether the EVO is going to be a better phone/upgrade than the Moment is currently... Unless you have actaully held and used the phone, then you can't either. It's all specualtion for now. Everyone thought Obama was going to be the best thing since sliced bread... so far he is "Meh" at best.

How can Toyota have done nothing wrong if some of the models have critical flaws? Think people are just making it up?

oh and uh...

Jeep > Toyota FJ =D

And as we completely digress, if Toyota isn't at fault for any of the problems why all the recalls, lol.............annnnnnnnnnyyyyyywayyyyyy.....

My wife and I have moments with 2.1 and root. The work great for us but I 've read different reports. Maybe luck of the draw.

Hmmm... I don't think mine will be winning any races anyhow... 70Mph top end kinda makes it a one sided race. But hey my 120:1 crawl ratio means I can just let her idle up and over any obstacle. Then when you break one of those puny axels you have trying to follow me I can help pull you home, maybe.

I kid... They are both great vehicles

In general HTC puts out a great product, they are not infallible. Their Touch Pro and Diamond's in general sucked. I was ready to write off HTC until they released the Touch Pro 2. They redeemed themselves. Considering how long they've been working on candy bar Snapdragon powered android phone, I'm sure this will not be anything short of awesome.

I tell you what, you show me a report that demonstrates that the person-you-know's car problem was Toyota's fault, and I'll eat crow. But all these stories end the same: there's no way to prove it wasn't just driver error and/or someone with buyer's remorse using the media hype to try to get out of their car without fault.

I hate drive-by-wire but the systems are designed with multiple redundancies and if all the readings don't agree the engine stops. All brands, all cars.

But back on topic, HTC has made some boring phones here and there but they've never failed to deliver a phone that works as advertised. They've built a reputation and earned my trust. If the EVO sucks it will be a surprise to us all. (probably HTC as well!)

Yes and computer systems are known to be perfect. Bugs just don't exist.

And that site... is waaay biased man. Lol. But who keeps a stock jeep anyway? what fun is that?
