I set up the Darling Bride's Moto X Pure first. (a) Because I'm a sweet guy; and (b) I wanted a guinea pig to test on before I started on mine

Setup through Migrate is an absolute breeze. It took about 30 minutes to get everything transferred over wifi/NFC from her old 2013 Moto X to the Pure. Getting Google contacts to download was a bit of a trick, but I eventually got it. Set up Android Pay, Swiftkey, Cerberus and all.

My only real issue during setup was squeezing everything onto one home screen for her... not that she needs any more. Apparently, there is a second home screen to the left: but every time I swipe to access it, Google Now shows up. Any ideas on how to fix that? I have Apex Pro, so I'll have plenty of home screens. I need them, too!

Those are my early first impressions. I am very impressed with the brilliance of the screen, the colors, and the speed. It holds her 128GB card like a champ; I expect no issue when I plug my 200GB card into mine. I'll start setting my baby up as soon as my portfolio case comes in the mail, which is already overdue. Maybe later today...

I got mine a week ago and the more I use it, the more I love it. By far the best phone I've ever had. Previous to this I had the MotoX 2013 and before that a Droid 3. I've used Samsung phones a lot too including the S6.

The one thing that no one has mentioned is the Android version. It's probably as close to stock Android as you can get and it's fantastic. Samsung really missed the boat by going with their Tizen interface - Tizen is pretty horrible compared to just the stock Android. The underlying hardware between an S6 and the MotoX Pure Edition isn't drastically different, but the Moto X is WAY faster and smoother to use.

Battery life seems really nice too. The other night I forgot my charger at work, so when I got home I threw my phone into airplane mode. I had a 50% charge on it and the next morning it really hadn't gone down much. I went to work, still forgot to charge it, and made it to about noon when I realized it was dying. I only had about 30 minutes before I ran out the door, so I threw it on the quick charger and the thing was close to 50% when I pulled it back off.

Really quick initial thoughts. I'm coming from an iPhone6 Plus and last was a regular Android user about 2 years ago. But my daughter is a Samsung die-hard so I'm still pretty up to date with the workings and features of Android. Only used it for a couple of hours today.

Physical Size... Just a hair smaller then the 6 Plus, both in height and width. Even 2 mm in width makes a difference and the XPE is easier to hold. I really like the size. I purchased a Nexus 6 a few weeks ago and had to promptly return it the next day for being much too wide for my hands.

Screen size... The screen on the XPE is just about 1mm taller, and 1.5 mm wider, so the difference here is negligible.

Screen... The screen on the 6+ seems brighter, but the higher resolution is clearly apparent on the XPE, especially when using and comparing the cameras side by side. Colors on the XPE are a touch more vibrant. Screen is a fingerprint magnet, need PET screen protector ASAP.

Battery... no feedback yet.

Hot to touch... Yes, the XPE does warm up pretty quickly. I need to put it through its paces to see if it gets so hot that it demonstrates the issues another owner on the forum has. Will get to that in the next few days.

Sound... Yes, as expected, really good. Volume on the 6+ was louder, but the XPE provided a fuller sound overall.

Desktop layout... Icons too large and too spaced out, quickly got irritated with that (less than 15 minutes) and downloaded Nova Launcher as I've read others like using... so far so good.

Camera... initial impressions are solid and positive. Will use it more over the next few days and update in the pics thread.

Moto Migrate... tried this feature with my daughter's S4 and the process kept stalling. Was able to transfer a few apps and files over but gave up after 3 tries and did a factory reset.

Okay, all set up and active on the Verizon network. Here are my first impressions:

Setup was a pain. While my accounts and pics, etc. transferred via Moto Migrate, the apps DIDN'T. So I had to install all desired apps from Play, one at a time, and set them all up. Fortunately, a lot of them like CamScanner and 1Password have cloud sync, and everything synced up brilliantly. The sound from the speakers is awesome. The QHD screen is wonderful, especially with my Asteroids Pack live wallpaper... and watching Star Wars III on it was a sheer joy.

Probably my biggest pet peeve with the Note 4 was the awful Bluetooth binaries. It would regularly forget that it was playing... or paused... and the button on my BT stereo headset would do nothing. I would have to whip out the phone, unlock it, and remind it to do what I was telling it to do. But so far the XPE (I like "XPE") remembers what I'm doing! 5 minutes go by, 30 minutes go by. But I can hit the button on my headset and it pauses or plays as commanded. It just WORKS!

It does get a little warm. Not hot, just warm. Then again, I've been wearing it out today doing all the setup stuff. Time will tell if this is truly an overheating issue or me just working it half to death.

Along with my brand new phone, I paired up my brand new Huawei Watch with it. No issues. Connected like a champ. The Huawei Watch, BTW, is a gorgeous piece of high-end stuff. If you are in the market for a smartwatch and have the means, I can't think of a better piece of gear for your wrist. In fact, I'm going to sell my Moto 360 in favor of this new one. Back to the Moto X Pure:

I LOVE the enhancements that Moto threw onto stock Android. The gestures like flick to open camera and chop for flashlight work as advertised. My favorite thus far, though, is the Trusted zones. You can set a location like home, work, school - or even the Bluetooth connection in your car - as a trusted zone, and it will remain unlocked there. No more unlocking over and over!

Google Now works great on the XPE. You can tell it stuff like "Okay Google, turn on the flashlight" and the LED will light right up. You can tell it to turn off the same way. HANDY!

I haven't taken a lot of pictures yet, but I imagine they'll look pretty good. That said: the 21MP shots are only available in 4:3 aspect ratio... the 16:9 shots top out at 16MP. A minor disappointment: but I never planned to produce billboard-size prints with this thing, anyway.

Considering that this is Android Lollipop, I'm still pleased with its performance. And we should be among the first, right up there with the Nexus line, to see an update to Android Marshmallow as soon as it hits the street.

All said, I am VERY impressed with this phone. Everything just works as it should... and some have even exceeded my expectations. For those members and lurkers still thinking about it, get this phone! And if I can answer any questions about it, just ask.

A few more plus'es:

- WiFi connects more easily to public hotspots (than my iPhone 6+)
- Cell reception is excellent, an upgrade from the 6+. There's an AT&T dead-ish zone where I take my son for taekwondo. You always see parents outside with their iPhones in their outstretched hands searching for signal. Reception wasn't perfect, but for the first time, I could get a signal strong enough, while still on the inside, to do everything I wanted. That's a wow-factor for me!
- Can use magnetic mounts, the phone adheres to magnetic mounts without the use of the metal plates we stick to the back of the phone, or slip into the back of our phone cases.
- Camera is excellent, easily on par with the 6+, which is recognized as having one of the best cameras
- Web browsing is fast on Chrome, much faster that the 6+'s Safari or Google Now searches
- The size is perfect. The XPE feels MUCH smaller than the 6+, even though it really isn't even that much smaller
- The bumper is still plasticky and cheap... yuck!
- I don't miss the Home button as much as I thought I would. I am surprised the adjustment took less than a day.

This is mostly good stuff...!

I know how you feel about the home button. Coming from the Note series, I keep pressing the lower speaker thinking it's the home button

The XPE is definitely smaller than the Note 4. Same size screen, but smaller device. Great size in hand.

Where can I find the "trusted zone" settings? I remember reading about the feature, but can't find it in settings.

I picked up the last retail unit in Kansas City, 16 GB black on black at Best Buy.
Early initial thoughts (less than 24 hours in)

* Wow I missed Moto software and the Pure is leaps and bounds ahead of MK1 (2013)
* Screen - while very nice and I like the color representation, I do see the less than black blacks that have been mentioned. Certain I can lie with it, but I do see why some people complain.
* Size - Perfect - Nuff Said
* Speakers - Awesome - Nuff Said
* Feel in hand/Build quality - Everything I have come to expect from Motorola very solid, feels great in hand
* Speed/Smoothness - like $&*% through a goose. I mean greased lighting. Buttery smooth.
* Operation - I had heard about it charging hot and running hot under load, I have experienced neither and I watched YouTube for about 30 min last night (solid)
* Overall design - the silicone back is ....OK.... honestly I'd prefer leather I'm sure but looking at the leather on Motomaker it's also textured it looks like, I prefer the leather finishes of the 2014 X and especially the Navy leather. Sad that's not an option. IF I keep this one I will certainly get a TPU case.
* Storage options - the Jury is still out, I went lean and mean on what apps I put on here and I have about 5GB of space (of the 16GB) left. I prefer to have more apps than I have now but I like at least a 2GB cushion - I'd feel better with 5GB open - I have found phones run better when they have some breathing room. I do have a 32 GB micro SD in there and am placing pictures there...we'll see - I have 13 days more to test drive and decide.
* Speaking of camera, seems fine and dandy and I love the QR scanner built in. Time will tell how it does as a "camera".

Soooooo yea that's it for now. Honestly (as always) a super phone at an awesome price. You simply can't go wrong with the X Pure.

In other Motorola Marshmallow news, the company says that it’ll actually remove some of its Moto features from Android 6.0 updates. Moto Assist and Motorola Migrate will both be pulled from Marshmallow because Google has its own versions baked into Android 6.0. Motorola will also pull the Motorola Connect Chrome extension because “many consumers have moved from SMS to other over-the-top messaging services.”

I am not at all pleased.

Now I realize I am firmly in the "honeymoon" stage, but - comparing to my N6 that does have some software issues after the last "security update" and has not been acting at all right with regard to awake time, WiFi and Mobile data which all effect battery life. As a comparison, I am at 74% battery (off charge at 6:45 this morning) my N6 was at or below 50% at this time yesterday. Battery life is phenomenal for me at this point. I have not noticed any issues as yet.

And, every ...yea EVERY android phone is currently vulnerable.

Well, I tried Android Pay today and was not too high on it. It forces you to lock your phone. I know, I know, I should be locking my phone anyhow, but at home why in the world would I? Add to that, the fact that the cards that used to work in Wallet, no longer are showing as being available to use. I about had it.

I was able to figure out this phone has a smart lock feature, where I placed my home as the site, and after a few hours it works great. I no longer have to use the lock at home. OK, I guess I can live with that.

I am still struggling with not being able to use my cards, but hopefully they will eventually add Chase as one of their cards.

Well, I take it back. The smart lock is hit or miss. I have seen the lock screen for the last half hour.

I really wish they would have had the lock on the app, not the whole phone.

Anyone know how to make the smart lock work more consistently.

I use my watch and it works perfectly. Are you using WiFi or GPS? If GPS make sure your house is really in the circle, and maybe widen it a bit.

Well. Now that you ask I'm not sure if I'm thinking of smartlock or Tasker. I thought there was a way to adjust it.

I just went in, it's Tasker that I was thinking of. You can obviously adjust your position on the map but not the radius. Dang.

So I received my Moto X Pure a few days ago and have been using it for those few days. So far I am very pleased with it with exception to 2 things:

1) Even though it has the ability to natively attach to magnetic mounts in vehicles it is so damned heavy it just slides off mine.
2) When I receive voicemail (Verizon) I get the notification, but tapping the notification does nothing. Not really sure how to even address that one. When I retrieve my voicemail as well the voicemail notification doesn't go away either so I have to manually remove it.

Found out that the the Facebook issue is a Google and Facebook thing that will most likely never be changed. Here's to hand updating over 500 contacts!!!

I can now say with certainty that I really dislike the vanilla contacts app. Just clunky and terrible.

Received mine on the 18th and very pleased. All previous phones have been carrier branded Samsung and a few Casio. This in the first one that I haven't felt the need to root straight out of the box. Had to Google how to put it on silent mode today while hunting. Still learning the little things.

Went ahead and installed Motorola Device Manager on laptop today so I'll be ready when update starts rolling out. Don't want to have to wait for OTA.
