Well it figures that i was on the 2.1 v2 leak and my phone broke. Yesterday I got my replacement with 1.5 and was excited to root! Now Verizon announces the OTA is due to come out today...should I still root? Or should I wait for the root on 2.1?will it be any different?

Definitely root. No question about it. There really is no reason to grab the OTA when it comes out because when its finally released someone with have a Rom of it available in a matter of days if not hours. Not to mention most of the Roms are 100 times better than any vanilla update Verizon puts out. Most devs will take the most recent base Verizon update and create a Rom from that anyway.

If you don't use the root abilities like SuperUser and you aren't worried about being able to flash different roms like EE2, Vanilla, or Sense-Able then you should just stick with the OTA (If and when it arrives).

Rooting has tremendous benefits but only if you take advantage of them. If you don't think you will be using the in depth root features then you may as well stick to OTA.

Hope this helps :)

i want to root def...i've been reading into it and looking at different ROMs

however there are so many ROMs out there I can't decide, I wish I could get screenshots of each one side by side and pros and cons too...

life has so many hard decisions :D

My advice would be to follow the sticky thread about upgrading to 2.1 root. It is a very simple process and once you are finished you will be running the official 2.1 rom. From there I would advise doing a nandroid backup and then flash away. Go to grdlocks page and grab a rom you would like to try and flash it. It is that simple if you like it I would do a nand of it as well just to make switching between different roms easier.

Have fun with it. Root is a blast.

Or you could just talk to someone who's tried them all. Maybe give you their opinion on which on isaloysius2.0v11mapsthe best.

You're just starting out, you'll find your way quickly enough. Best advice I can give you is to just go to grdlocks site, link on the root sticky, and pick a Rom and flash it. If you don't like it, try another one. Most likely you'll end up like the rest of us and become flash-a-holics and when a new Rom comes out, you'll flash it to see how you like it. Once you see how easy it is to do nand backups and restores, you won't be so apprehensive about flashing different Roms. So far evil Eris and aloysius and the favorite Roms out there imo it seems.

officially rooted now...ran into one hiccup when i had to flash the eris2.1officialroot file because I use a Macbook and Safari. It gave me a verification error because when you dl with safari it automatically unzips the file, i compressed it back and apparently that messed it up i duno.
I had to re-download it using firefox and everything went smooth from there!

now i get to choose some roms and have fun!
