Help Next date we won't get the official 2.1 update

My moment went up on Craigslist last night. Cant take this phone anymore. Ive got it up to trade for a Tour or Touch Pro 2. This phone has been one of the biggest disappointments. Even if 2.1 does finally release it doesnt seem like it'll fix the issues. When the EVO drops Ill try that one but until then this p.o.s. has to go.

I'm waiting for the announcement of:

"Well, we're releasing what we have of 2.1 to you guys because it's June 30th, so TECHNICALLY we're on time (even if it doesn't work right). At this time, however, we've shifted our engineering sources over to Froyo 2.2 to ensure your Moment is updated to the best OS possible. Release is 2H 2010."

For all that I rag on this phone, it's light years better than my old Touch Pro. Though I've never owned a TP2, I've used one extensively and all the pretty HTC skin in the world can't completely hide the old gnarly wart that is winmo. As for BB's? I don't get it at all. The OS is old and crippled. Email and battery life are great, but the rest is suck.

2.1 does fix many of the issues with this phone, have you tried the leak? I came across this battery guide and the one thing I hadn't tried before was changing the wifi sleep policy. While I haven't seen much of a noticeable effect on battery life yet, my cdma lockup issues after turning off wifi seem to have disappeared(so far). This phone isn't the most inspiring thing I've owned and I doubt I'll own it for more than a year, but it's not a total POS either. I certainly would reserve judgment till the official 2.1 release. Anyway, if you just can't live in the Moment, I wish you well with your TP2 or Tour.

Its the battery thats killing me. Everyday it gets worse and worse. Yesterday I got 6 hours and now today after 1 hour off the charge Im down to 80%. I made a 5 minute call. Plus I still cant get picmail and my data is locking up constantly.

I tried 2.1 but the battery was lasting 4 hours with background data on. Now Im on joeys 1.5. While Im not a huge fan of winmo, the TP2 battery lasts over 24 hours easily. As for BB, its not the prettiest thing in the world but again the battery lasts over 24 hours and the phone just flat out functions. Ive got a trade date for next weekend with a guy on craigslist. If 2.1 isnt out by then and more things arent fixed then dd10 currently offers then the moment has to go.

Where's the Moment 2 thread or info?

Given the choice of waiting for the Moment 2 or getting the existing Moment and then updating, I'd wait if release was coming soon. I'm switching from ATT to get the Evo, but my wife wants a keyboard and liked the original Moment's QWERTY. I just have a hard time believing going with the original Moment with upgrade is going to be a good as the Moment 2.

Any experienced Moment users care to make recommendations?

I am just like you but I currently have Sprint and I am due for an upgrade and my actual contract is over by the end of June but I can get an upgrade now. I am, however, waiting for the Moment 2 to arrive as I like the touch screen and keyboard option. I was orginially going to wait for the Android 2.1 to come out then purchase the orginial Samsung Moment, but there is signs that a Samsung 2 (M910) is going to be available, so I am just going to wait it out.

I'm being tortured. My wife saw the Moment during the holidays and said she wanted it. I told her we had to wait because I'd only get the Evo if we switched to Sprint. She patiently waited for me. Then, M2 passed the FCC but Sprint's not made any comments on availability. Now, I'm admitting I don't have the patience she had.

I'm trying to convince her to just get an Evo as well, but she'd rather have a keyboard and fewer advanced functions as long as the phone works and has a keyboard as well as an acceptable but not great quality camera. She does, however, not want the original M if the M2 is going to be available in June or better.

Alas, the Sprint void of info is sipping from my now empty well of patience yet again! Ouch!
