I recently updated the handcent messaging app and after a few soft resets the icon on the home screen is gone. the name is there and a grey X. if i reinstall the app it reappears but it takes too much time to keep redoing my settings. anyone else notice that? it happened twice after about 8 soft resets.
UPDATE
I found out in another forum its a known bug.

at this point yes, that is how it is

i have it on good authority (heh!) that they have found the source of the problem and have code that does NOT produce the "black x icon" -- they've got to incorporate that now into the rest of the app, test, then publish it -- sit tight, it takes time

about the force close problem.. i dunno - will check on that

Update available. It fixes the X icon and the force close on landscape.

Oddly, now my Handcent icon is missing, but instead of an x, I get what looks like two gray "photos" with play symbols in them...VERY hard to see.

This happened to me as well. Only, it does not happen until after the first soft reboot. I have uninstalled as reinstalled the app 3 times. Same issue. I wiped the device, same issue. The only thing that fixed the issue was one of two things that I did at the same time, so I am not sure where the problem is:

I the forematted my sd card, thinking maybe the app had cached something there that was causing the issue and then wiped the device one more time.

I then set up Gmail, Facebook and Twiter during the initial device setup. Then I went straight to applications and turned off Sense UI, and have been running the stock Android Home.

Then i installed all the problem apps one a time (I had similar issues with Handcent SMS, Flixster, and Twidroid Pro) and rebooted between each install.

I can say that I have had no issues whatsoever after these steps. The device is substantially faster, nit just in response time, but also things like screen rotation.

If you are willing to help determine what is causing this, you could try just the SD card format and see if that works. Just uninstall Handcent SMS, reboot, format the card in the device, and then reinstall Handcent SMS. Just make sure to backup anything on the card that you want to keep first.

If that does not work then we know that it is Sense UI that is causing the problem, if it does, we know it was something cached on the SD card.
