Help Not had many opportunities to buy outright!

Hi everyone, I hope everything body is having a great start of the year!
I am trying to figure out the best new release of android based phone to purchase.
I do not have a good history with positive Verizon treatment and I would not do business with them unless they were the last company left ono the earth and then I would have to think about it.
When I was married, we tried Cricket Wireless and their network coverage and customer service was really bad.
I have had some good, some bad with GoSmart, an off-shoot of T-Mobile.
A friend rented a phone for me which was the Samsung Galaxy Mega that turned out, it was set up for the United Republic of Arabia. The antenna was set up differently and I could not even print to a printer in my home and data was so slow, it was coming through as 2g and the internet/phone would time-out.
I now have an LGL41C that the same friend bought for me off of a private citizen. I am using a BYO Trac phone and using Straight Talk which has been failing while receiving or sending text for up to 12 hours after they were sent. So my generous son tells me we will be buying me a new phone tomorrow.
I have no idea what to buy.
I see, by your post you are a big Nexus, 6P fan. What really messes with me is the fact that I did not see the 6P listed as one of the best android phones on the site. Did I miss it or perhaps did not recognize it in the list.
My son has the Samung Galaxy 6?, whichever one was released in the middle of 2015.
The battery life is miserable, the memory falls short, and why Samsung did not move up to the Marshmallow O.S., seems a little evil as well. It is tops when it comes to the camera, but not good enough to make me want to buy it for myself.
I went to the CNET site and read their review, taking into consideration everyone has their likes and dislikes. The two phones which caught my eye were the Nexus 6P and the Blackberry Priv.
I know what I like and afraid I will get stuck with an expensive phone, I will not utilize to warrant the money my son is willing to spend!
I need a lot of memory or the ability to add it. I really prefer a removable battery with a long life. I love the camera on my son's phone, but I do not need it. The ability to move apps to SD card. I need to have a phone I can use as Hotspot or at least use to connect to my other devices, to access and utilize the internet I now have. I have and use a lot of different apps for saving, editing and printing files and documents. I play games as well!
If this is too much to ask anyone to read, I get it. I use it a lot so a great screen would be awesome!
I still do not know or have a good idea what I need to buy for a new smartphone.
Thanks,

That was quite the post to take in, oh my! I am not sure the best advice to offer, especially considering the complexity of what we have to work with here. Is your son pretty technical? I might just lean on his guidance and look at a few things in person.

I am really happy with the Note series. Samsung Galaxy Note. I have the 4 now, and I have had the 2 and 3 also. Big screen, decent battery life and camera. Apps to SD are fine I suppose, I don't use it though. Can print to my printer..

I do use verizon and am pretty happy with them. I wish they were a bit cheaper esp considering I've lost unlimited. I also don't much care for CNET or their reviews.

It sounds, though, like you are a lot like me in general. I will agonize over a purchase wanting everything to be perfect. As far as phones go, though, I just stick with what I know, and I know I've had Motorola, HTC and Samsung devices and for me, I've stuck with Sammy since I first tried them.

Hopefully someone can chime in with some other helpful answers. Best of luck to ya!

I am sorry to say my son is so not technical! Do you mind if I ask why you haven't tried a Nexus 6P? If it because you decided to stick with what you know, I so get it! I am really looking for a phone I can take anywhere as far as providers go but that is next to impossible except for the Blackberry Priv and I am a little scared if Blackberry will be around long enought to provide support.
I am currently with Straight Talk and I am not unhappy using the LGL41C which is the Ultimate 2, I believe.
Thank you for your reply, ☺

So are you saying Marshmallow is available update? I wonder if my son knows about that? He has Sprint but he seems to complain about slow data speed. Is it possible he can get updated to Marshmallow on the Sprint network?
If so, maybe I will take over phone so he can go somewhere else and get something else. I am home 99% of the time so I can use WiFi of my internet. That would be okay and I will probably not use more than 32 g of memory or I will wait until his cotract runs out!

If all that is so, this has been an incredibly helpful reply and I cannot thank you enough!

just personal experience here.
Verizon for well over 20 years, and they have been excellent to deal with.
however, if you cop an attitude their CS folks are just like any other CS support team...

VZW is not the cheapest, but the have the best coverage.... AT&T is a tie now, so choose them?
Cricket is AT&T, StraightTalk is VZW carrier.

I have a Note 4 that I just love to use, however, it is a heavy beast for my shirt pocket...

I have two S5 phones and they are great, and available brand new for $259.... fantastic phone, with flagship features, great camera, extSDcard, you can't go wrong, so your son's wallet will thank you, and you get a great phone.

I bought my daughter an HTC One M9 and she says that was a mistake, too damn expensive, too heavy and too big for her hands... and it is so slick it feels like a wet soap bar.... she had to put a case on it to keep her hands on it.

I have been eyeballing the Nexus line but can't afford it right now.

Straight talk actually uses ATT, T-Mobile, and Version, and in a few phones Sprint.
