So I recently purchased a Samsung 32GB SD card with the understanding that it would add space for me to move my existing apps, pictures, videos, etc to in order to free up some of my internal storage.

I have hooked up the SD card properly, and I am able to move apps and photos to the SD card, however, it doesnt seem to be freeing up any space.

For example, I moved a game app that I have on my phone that is about 1GB onto my SD card, and .97GB of it transferred and it now says that is where the files are. Despite that, it still says I only have .5GB remaining of internal storage... So it is on my SD card, but it is still taking up internal storage.

Is there something going wrong? Or do I not have an accurate understanding of how these things work? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure that you are moving the apps to the actual SD card and not the emulated SD card that is part of the internal memory of the device? Also, I have to point out that even when you do move an app to an SD card, only part of the app gets moved. All the data for the app remains in the internal memory. People are often disappointed when they buy an SD card expecting to move apps there. The SD card is basically for media, music, photos and such. The only way to really get more room for apps requires you to be rooted.

Yeah it says that the full app is about 1.2 GB and I was able to move about .97 GB of it, but Im not sure how to tell if it is the real SD card or the emulated... Also, what is rooting?

The only way I know to tell for sure if it is moving to the real SD card or to the emulated SD is to use a file explorer and go exploring. But from what you describe, I'll bet it is moving it to the emulated SD.

Rooting is gaining root access to the android system (kinda like administrator mode in Windows).

How do I go about rooting my device?
