2.1 is great, but what I really want is Froyo

2.2 and flash may run like butter on the Nexus One, but it also has a stock 1GHz processor and more memory. So....it would run like molasses on the Eris. Me, I have to wait till September to get an Incredible or maybe I'll find on ebay for not to much. I NEED Snapdragon.

I got my Eris in Feb (yes, should have waited), but with Verizon's upgrade every 12 months, it's no big deal.

This is what has me interested.

Update: How much faster is a Nexus One running Froyo? 450 percent faster, according to the Android Police. They claim to have a device running the as-yet-unreleased firmware that can perform over 37 million floating-point operations per second in the Linpack benchmark... compared to about 7 megaflops without. Oh yeeaaah.

I can only guess that "without it" means on 2.1 or lower, which the numbers certainly suggest. Most of the highest numbers the guys running oc'd eris ROMS are getting are around 5 mflops on 2.1. That leads me to believe that the N1 should probably run at around 7 mflops on a stock handset. To me, it really looks like a testament to the speed and efficiency of the OS itself.

I didn't claim it was the best joke ever. I just merely wanted to stir the pot. Who decided you were the demigod of jokes anyway?

WOW, who need to relax and take a deep breath now? True I'm no comedian but you were treading on pretty shaky ground stirring the pot with mention of 2.2. Remember good air in, bad air out.

Sorry, I'm taking out aggression on you.

One of my employees asked me to to put some music on. Being the good boss that I am, I obliged. However they asked for Nickelback. Now there's @%^##$@ Nickelblack blaring through the office. It's coming from my last.fm app and I'm concerned that all the hard work I've put into creating a more perfect library is being ruined.

pray for me.

Here's a good reason to want Froyo on our phones:

Just so you have an idea of the kind of scores you can expect from the benchmark, let me list a few sample numbers:

* the Nexus One running Android 2.1 gets about 6.5-7 MFLOPS
* my HTC Hero averages a measly score of about 2 MFLOPS (the phone is pretty slow indeed)

So how does the Nexus One with Froyo do?

A whopping 37.5 MFLOPS.

Think about this for a second. 37.6, compared to 6.5-7 – that’s about a 450% speed improvement.

We are probably never going to see 2.2 on the droid eris. We are sorta lucky to even get 2.1 considering that the phone is EOLed at the end of the month.

Its a great smartphone nevertheless and 18 months left till a upgrade anyways

Once it gets officially released, I bet you'll see a leaked version or maybe a rooted version that will work on the Eris, IMHO.
