If I am diligent, I can lose one to two pounds a day. Just by skipping a meal or two, and eating lightly at dinner.

I have dropped ten pounds this month already (I need to lose at least fifteen more).

Unfortunately, tonight is pizza night... Even a thin-crust is dangerously fattening to me. I just gained two pounds, eating half of what I would normally eat.
I envy you. I can look at a cheesecake and gain four pounds

That's not a healthy rate to lose weight..

As a long time weight yo-yo, I can attest to the truth in that .... and the futility of it. It feels great when the weight comes off, but quite depressing when you realize a year later than you are worse off than before and it getting it back off is even harder.

That's not a healthy rate to lose weight..

Nope, it's not, but for some the "right" way is not a reasonable life change. I do not want to spend the rest of my life obsessing about food or whether this has 12 grams of that or 50 mg of this, or if I'm "allowed" to have something else.

I could spend vast amounts on plans and programs and seek medical advice or intervention, but the simple (and only) method of weight loss is to eat less and/exercise more until energy use surpasses intake.

I don't think weight loss is the same for all people. I do agree that the best regiment is to eat less and exercise more. I was a husky lineman type when I was in high school. By the time I entered college I realized I would have better luck with the ladies if I slimmed down. I lost ten pounds with my first month's efforts. It made me mad so I just quit eating for the most part. I lost sixty pounds the second month and another ten the third. That was forty years ago and I'll admit that I've gained back a few pounds since. I'm still considered to be on the lean side.
I know that losing my weight fast was not healthy or how it should be done but it worked great for me.
To this day I only eat one meal a day. I eat plenty when I eat but that's all I eat. That's not likely a good diet either but then again... it works for me.
I think finding what works for your life style that stays in that healthy ratio of input / body consumption is the ticket.

Well, that's the thing. I grew up in poverty, so my calorie intake as a kid was on the lower end, and I was active as hell.

Then I ended up in hospital for a month with sugar water dripping into my veins... I gained twenty pounds that month and have never lost it.

When I was deployed, I'd usually eat only once a day, and my body was fine with that.

Now that I'm working at the hangar, I can get away with eating two meals a day, but on my days off and when on trips, I not only eat an extra meal, but my wife drops he leftovers on my plate and sometimes the kids' too.

That's one reason why I'm fat. I like food and I'm not afraid to eat it.

Normally my body does a pretty good job at keeping my weight to a set point; but a few vacations and a lot of stress at work resulted in me not sticking to my normal diet.

So... I have to drop some of this weight and then ease back into my proven routine.

I skip a meal and I lose a pound or two overnight...I do that a few days in a row, and I'm down several pounds.

I started out life very skinny... sickly skinny even. My parents were concerned. I was not only small for my age but down right frail. The family doc and parents spent a few years fattening me up and placed me into a habit of eating until I was too full. It became a way of life that only looking back on it can I see how harmful that time was too my well being. I'm sure it seemed the right thing to do at the time but it formed some terrible eating habits that are impossible to break. To this day, I'm not happy until I've consumed so much that I'm miserable. To support that, I only eat once a day.

It's true that calorie reduction (aka dieting) can be an effective means of weight loss, but is it sustainable for most people? I think not, and for that reason a lot of people put the weight back on. But combine diet changes with a bit of exercise, and you're on to a winner. I believe that where people go wrong is be too radical in their lifestyle changes. Making small improvements, e.g. only having one cookie, instead of three, and smaller portions will improve chances. But I really think that diet + exercise is the key. If you do enough physical exercise, then you can actually manage on a reasonable eating pattern and still lose weight.

BTW I went through a period of trying 5:2 fasting - that's 2 days per week of eating 600 calories in the day. Believe me that is nothing. I didn't actually do it for weight loss, but for the perceived health benefits. In the end though I lost more weight than I was comfortable with, so I stopped doing it.

I'm on diet with several low calorie, high protein meals a day instead of engorging myself 3x a day. That, and cutting out all soda, monster drinks, pizza, snacks, pretty much anything glutinous, sugary and starchy.

I've lost 25 lbs after just 3 weeks. VERY tough to do, but you can lose a lot quick if you can stick it out. Soda and bread alone are like drugs. They're toxic, and you will go through withdrawal. It's amazing how much of a difference 25 less pounds of weight on your knees feels, and detoxing from soda, gluten and other sugary stuff clears up the brain fog. It's very rewarding, but not without cast iron dedication and, for me anyway, some degree of suffering.

5 Very important points:

1. Moderation in everything (food intake and exercise).
2. Know how your body reacts to different foods (this helps with #1).
3. Know how you body reacts to exercise (this helps with #1).
4. Everybody is different; different portions for different sized bodies and metabolisms.
5. Keep at it, stopping will only reverse the course you are on.

Congrats! Keep up the hard work. I think it's a bit easier to continue a diet when you start seeing the rewarding body changes. After all, we are mostly an instant gratification society.

I do not drink soda and now that I think about it.. I quit drinking soda around the same time I crashed dieted. I didn't quit drinking them to lose weight, it was more like I lost my desire for them. After a short time away from them and they all tasted terrible. I'll go thirsty before I drink any sweet drink.

I got tricked into trying turkey sausage once. Never forget, never forgive.

My clothes seem to be fitting looser lately. I wish I could drop 25 lbs in 3 weeks, but I ain't got that sort of discipline.

The big thing for me has been avoiding soda at all costs. I can count on one hand the number of sodas I've had since Thanksgiving.

Mobile phones are 'cooking' men's sperm

Fertility experts are warning man that using a mobile for as little as an hour a day is "cooking sperm" and lowering level significantly.

The new study shows that having a mobile phone close to the testicles - or within a foot or two of the body - can lower sperm levels so much that conceiving could be difficult.

The findings have led to a leading British fertility expert to advise men to stop being addicted to mobile phones.

I worry about holding the bloody thing up to my head. God knows what it's doing to my brain cells, I need them all. These days I use it on speaker most of the time.
