I am still using a WinXP Desktop PC (standalone No Internet) for basic Word Processing and Photo Editing.

Have recently purchased 64GB mSD cards and found Win XP would not recognize them.

Googled and found it needs an exFAT driver. "Description of the exFAT file system driver update package" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/955704

Have the same problem with some of my Android devices so Googled using "Android exFAT driver" but did not find a Google driver like found for WinXP.

Did find "ADDING MICROSD AND USB STORAGE SUPPORT TO ANDROID DEVICES" http://plugable.com/2014/09/17/adding-microsd-and-usb-storage-support-to-android-devices

Also found NonGoogle Apps like "USB Driver for Android"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adbdriver.app

As an Android beginner would appreciate suggestions as to the various options.

Thanks

Ken

Download from MS and you will then be able to format the SD card as exFat so your phone can read it. The other links you posted are not relative to what you are trying to do.
Do you have a valid source where an exFAT driver for XP can be obtained? As Microsoft stopped supporting XP its pages for XP downloads are now tagged as 'read-only' with no updates. Even sites like Sandisk no longer show exFAT patches for XP.

Android already includes support for exFAT to a limited extent so as Pugs1957 already mentioned, that other link is irrelevant. And if your phone doesn't already support USB OTG (a lot of newer phones do but not all), it's not a trivial task to add OTG support as it requires rooting your phone and a change to its Linux kernel.

But if the whole issue you just want to transfer files back and forth between your phone and your XP computer using a microSD card here's a somewhat unconventional suggestion. Instead of trying to workaround the exFAT support issue on XP, skip having to copy files to a microSD card and use a local wireless network. Since you are wisely keeping that XP cut off from the Internet, just pick up a cheap wireless router. Set up your own local network using a standard Ethernet cable to connect your XP computer to the router and connect your phone to the router via WiFi. As long as you don't connect your router to any kind of DSL or cable hook up you'll have your own local network to share files, and since it doesn't have any online access your XP box isn't vulnerable. Install an app like WiFi File Transfer on your phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer
Then all you can copy files back and forth using the web browser on your computer. When you launch the app your phone it will show you an IP address and port number, you type that exact address:port number into your computer's browser and the browser windows will present you with an interface to your phone.

Pugs1957 & svim,

Thanks for your suggestions!

Please excuse my Bad English. "Download from MS and you will then be able to format the SD card as exFat"

Will try to restate. My new 64GB SD cards came formatted with exFat.

Yes I was able to download and install the MS WinXP exFat driver so these 64GB SD cards are usable.

I hoped that Google would have something similar for Android.

"Android already includes support for exFAT to a limited extent so as Pugs1957 already mentioned, that other link is irrelevant. Question: Is there an Android App that can detect if the Android Device supports USB OTG?

Did a quick Play Store search and found
USB OTG Checker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.usbotgchecker&hl=en
USB Host Diagnostics https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.usbhostdiagnostics&hl=en
plus others.

Appreciate tips on what apps have worked the best.

Thanks

Ken

Plugs1957,

"I just use Google to check out the spec of the device and whether these are supported." Thanks for the tip!

Would like to check if TRACFONE Alcatel Onetouch Pixi Pulsar has OTG support.

Googled and found 2 specs for this phone but nothing about OTG support? Did I miss something?
