Calendar Sync issues

For some reason, none of the calendar apps I have tried will sync properly with any calendar on the web.

Yahoo Calendar used to be my default, but Yahoo made a mess of it....
So, I switched to Gmail/Google Calendar.

I am currently trying 'UpTo' and 'Jorte Calendar' and neither one of them will sync and display anything that is created on the web Google Calendar.

both will post an event to Google if made from the phone, but the reverse never works for me.

I have looked for 'Sync' and can't find it in Settings anywhere.
I looked at both apps in Application Manager, no mention of Sync there either.

In Jorte, you can force a sync but it does NOT retrieve anything from Google Calendar.

In UpTo you can't force a sync.

I looked at sync in each app's settings, turned it on.... to no avail.

this is frustrating, and really nullifies the value of even having a calendar app on a phone.

Surely, there is something I am not seeing thru the mist here....

FWIW: in the past I used a Samsung Galaxy S5, and now I am using a Samsung Note 4...
no difference, neither will sync to the cloud.

Well, for some reason, Jorte decided to download the Google Calendar.....
but not until after I had created a new event in UpTo and then looked at the Google Web Calendar, hit F5 to refresh that, and now Jorte is sync'd up....

weird..... something strange is going on here.

I would prefer to use UpTo Calendar, the display on that one is much nicer...
Jorte is in such tiny print, I can't read any of it without a microscope.

Now UpTo has updated....

I don't have a clue what is going on here....
the servers must have a tremendous delay in applying changes...

anyone know what is going on in the background that is not visible??

UpTo has not updated in over a week, and now that I added Jorte to the mix, and trying to get it to work, all of a sudden, UpTo decides it wants to Sync up???

Okay, almost missed a doctor's appt today....

luckily, the doctor's office called and asked if I was on my way?

I have been seeing the little Notification at the top of the screen that says "In sync with the Cloud"....
okay, that little bit of "info" lured me into complacency again.

but, the Note 4 is definitely not syncing with Google Calendar period.....
I have two calendar apps running, UpTo which I prefer for its' simplicity of presentation.... but it is only recording to the phone's calendar now.

Jorte Calendar: which is the app that claims to be syncing with the cloud.... I had it set to sync both the phone and Google calendar...
and it is not doing either one....

I just restarted the phone because Jorte claimed "No Network" when I did a Force Sync... ??

This is beyond rediculous, and it goes right back to every time in the past, and I mean for years, the frickin phone calendar is NOT worth a damn, because it will NOT sync with the web, every time, of every day....

once in a while, it syncs, but not with any degree of reliability.

anyone got any hints on how you made your phone calendars sync, EVERY TIME !!!

Hi

I really have no problems with sync over 4 google accounts on my note 4. I use google calendar app and aCalendar+ , both of which work fine syncing both ways.

Go to
settings
accounts
google
select the account ...@gmail.com
make sure that "sync calendar" is checked

Do you see a "sync is currently experiencing problems" message? If so try unchecking and re checking sync

Just had another thought - I think you have to have the Google Calendar app installed on your phone, even if you are not using it.

Now that is a thought.... never even occurred to me. :(
I will do this first, then I will one step at a time, install each of the above recommended calendar apps.... :)

I think in 'ones' and 'zeros' having been an electronic's tech all my life..... I like to go to the middle, divide and conquer....
ie, in the middle, you can do a test and see "if the trouble is okay leaving here" ( that is a very old electronics joke ) :D

Thanks all for the help....

Okay,

this is the "only change" that I have made....

and whamo! Every single calendar app on the phone is sync'd up as it should be.....

Bravo! and thank you very much....

now, I think I really like the "new to me" look of Google's calendar app... it is showing me the pictures of where my doctor's appointments are.... I take pictures of the front of each building and use that as the Contact Pix.... wow! my next doctor's appt has a full screenwidth display of where I am supposed to go....

nice touch.

I use aCalendar+ for a couple of years, never having an issue.
Pro version is also on sale today ;)
If you put that on, even the free version I could help you as I know its settings. Haven't used anything else to help with.

I looked at that one, got some neat features, and when I saw they donate 10% to the Tapir forests, I just up and bought the Pro version.
I'm a sap for such things.o_O

So, as a "wrap up" you might say, here is how it all jelled out for me.

1. uninstalled Jorte Calendar ( just too klutzy and impossible for 73 y/o eyes to see it )
Moved UpTo calendar out of sight (further review to see if it is needed for me at all )

2. Installed Google Calendar ( this fixed the sync issue )

3. Installed aCalendar+ Pro
The export features on this really attracted me, as I have a lot of Motorcycle Rallies scheduled, and like to include my events to my friends as a group.

My main Homescreen now has #2 & #3 together.....

Right now, as of this moment:
I see Google as being my "today/tmw" calendar, and I can readily see that aCalendar+ Pro is very handy for being a What's Up Doc? calendar for next month/year.....

Thank you to all for very solid help.

PS: I am a moderator for a motorcycle forum. In our Technical Threads, we request that everyone post up what they found as a Resolution to their Problem.

Troubleshooting threads are just totally useless, unless the future reader can review it and say "ah ha!!! that is how to fix this problem that I have...."

so, that is why, this particular post is here, and why I went to the trouble to format it by topic addressed.
