Just switched from apple to android fro the first time in years. got the galaxy s7, installed some apps, including some 3rd party ones. only two 3rd party apps were Mobdro and selfish piracy app because I'm a cheapo. Now I have a virus or something and I have to press the recents in order to press "skip" on the pop up to close it.

Did you try just uninstalling those apps to see if they themselves were the culprit(s).

Unless someone can give you an easy fix... Since you just got the phone.... Do a factory reset and get back to lets call it square one. This will be easier then trying to find a fix that may or not remedy the issue. Obviously, stay away from those particular site and apps that may be of issue.

To do reset:
  1. Turn off the phone off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up”, “Home” and “Power” at the same time
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power
  4. At the “Android” logo, release the other two hardware keys as well
  5. Wait for access to the Recovery menu (may take up to 60 seconds)
  6. Once in the Android System Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “factory reset"
  7. Scroll to yes, ok-ing the reset and then Press “Power” to confirm

You have no one to blame but yourself for this "Virus".
These are warez sites, containing pirated (STOLEN) copyrighted material.

tried uninstalling them but no luck. did one at a time and waited to see if it would happen again but no luck

As was suggested earlier, you should do a factory data reset. Since you just got the phone, you shouldn't have much to set up again. That's the downside of trying to get pirated content for free. Hopefully this is a lesson learned.

yeah I did that and it worked. I think the virus might have been from a pokemon ROM I tried installing. I forgot that I tried installing it, downloaded it and it didn't work. That was probably the error. I asked my brother law if he had the same problem as me with that add pop up and he said no (he also had the two 3rd party apps). It was probably from that.

overall though, I enjoy this phone more than an iPhone. A lot more I can do on it.

Just be aware that warez sites often contain infected apps, including some that are not so simple to clear (there is malware out there that can survive a factory reset if the phone is vulnerable).

Look at it this way: if a site is happy to host material which rips off app developers or content providers, why assume they care about protecting you?

so I re-installed both selfish piracy app because I'm a cheapo and mobdro, and there's no virus. It must have been from that ROM that I tried to install

I'm sorry you are having problems with pirated content. I had hoped you learned your lesson on the first goround. The definition of insanity is repeating the same steps and expecting a different result. Well, one of us is insane, because you are getting a different result this time. A thread lock. You won't get any more help here on trying to get your pirated apps and content to work.
