Help Downloading photos from micro SD card in Galaxy s7

I have a new Galaxy s7, with a micro SD card, where I store all my photos. Can anyone tell me now I can download some of my photos to my computer?

Before I bought the s7, I would connect my phone to my computer via USB and my computer would recognize the Galaxy drive and allow me to transfer photos from the phone to the computer. When I plug the s7 via USB to my computer, the computer does not seem to recognize the phone. I can't see anything when using the File Explorer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may need to update your PC drivers to properly recognize the S7.
Alternately, you can just take the SD card from the phone and stick it in the PC (assuming you have a reader, and if you don't they can be had cheap) to drag-and-drop your photos.

Try swiping down the notification bar and see if there is a notification for usb. If there is tap that and make sure it's set to MPT and not charge only. You may also be able to find this setting somewhere in the settings menu but I'm not familiar with the way Samsung lays out their settings.

Do you backup your photos to the cloud? I always download them this way, either from Google photos, or Dropbox etc after they have been backed up, which is pretty much instantaneous, after taking photos. No cables, no hassle.

Or install the app Airdroid, you connect your phone over wireless by going to http://web.airdroid.com/ and scanning a QR bardocde on your PC screen with the phone, then its pretty straightforward to copy files with the Airdroid file manager, again no cables and not much hassle. This method is good for transferring largish videos. Although you can download vids to your PC from a cloud backup as well.

Basically I can't remember the last time i used a cable over USB to either transfer media from or to my phone and/or PC.

You can access the external SD Card in your phone over Airdroid using the file manager as well, just follow the prompts to set it up in Files on Airdroid. This works fine in Marshmallow 6.0.1

This is the same question I would have asked. Reality is, you the smartphone user, would be wise, not to store photos on his/her smartphone in general. Sure keep a bunch that you like but not all your pics. Remember, if your smartphone dies or is stolen, etc. you chance losing all your precious pics. Best bet is to always keep copies of all your pics in the cloud. In todays day and age, you have Microsoft One Drive, Google Drive, Amazon photos and Dropbox that work extremely well with your computer and or your smartphone and even with Amazon Fire TV. Most all of these offerings give you a decent amount of storage for free. Amazon.com, if you are a Prime Member will let you keep ALL your pics in the cloud/with them for free. SO, don't be foolish enough to keep your precious pics on your computer and or smartphone without having them backed up on the cloud with one of the offerings I mentioned. Also, with each of these offerings you can have your smartphone set-up to automatically send a copy of each pic you take to their cloud storage, immediately after the pic is taken and automatically.
Imagine, you are on vacation, take a zillion pics that are on your phone and your phone is lost, stolen and or damaged in such a way that you cannot access your pics on the device. This is the year 2016. Take advantage of the current technology that allows you for free, to keep a backup in the cloud of precious files, pics...

Forgot to mention, once copies of the pics are in the cloud, you can access them from any device you own (computer, smartphone, Fire TV, etc.) that can access the internet. Another big plus is should you chose to you can share your in the cloud folders with, friends, family, etc..

Moving folders via USB cables and such is old school so to speak. Get with it, again it is the year 2016.
