Accessories confirmed

I just came from my local Best Buy where I tried to social-engineer myself a Droid. I brought the Best Buy sku 9553501 and motorola number A855 with me. The VERY helpful employee looked up the sku and it came up "Not avail at location". He realized it was the Droid and verified his belief by pulling out some accessories (Droid protective cover) marked A855. He told me that this Best Buy wasn't scheduled to have the Droid yet, and proceeded to tell me all about his hacked and rooted phone, how he ran Hero on some WinMo device. He told me that "IF" that Best Buy was going to be able to sell the phone, it won't be until November 9th. He also mentioned that Best Buy is having a training with Verizon on November 2nd.

Next attempt will be at the Verizon business store. Wish me luck!

I dropped by the VZW store this afternoon and was asking them about plans because I am about to get a new phone (either from VZW or switch to Sprint). I asked them when they were getting the new Android phones and they said they don't know and it would probably be next year. I said I thought the Droid was coming soon and he said no way. Then I asked why they were advertising in on their website and he was like huh? I think he was playing dumb and then he tried to get me to look at Blackberries.

Hahaha, most likely he was one of those employees who doesn't know crap about what there employer is actually doing. I have ran into many of those types, it would be really funny if you went there when the Droid comes out (which should be no later then nov 9th) and be like so you are really sure it's not till next year?.

This is possible. The other, and more likely answer, is that he values his job. You have to understand that this type of info is just as if not even more important to competitors. And the nature of the wireless industry is change. Info that we may have now, may change tomorrow. Ex. The motorola Barrage was released for 2 hours, and then it was pulled. Now it is being re-released this week.

The reality is we don't KNOW when the phone will be released and KNOW what specs will be in the final version. Also, every training is accompanied by a Non-disclosure contract signed by the employee stating EVERYTHING released in the training is confidential and disclosing said info would be grounds for termination. 95% of the time you see a leaked photo of a phone or specs or advertising, an employee is walked out that week. I've seen it alot.

With that said he probably knows quite a bit but can't talk about it. Besides, if your a sales person, you know what they say....SWAT....Sale Whats...Available....Today. Trying to sell a Moto Droid that's not avail. gets the $0 commission.

Ahh well from you randy I believe it, you seem very credible. I know from my expierence that a lot of reps don't always know much about the devices they even have currently. When I was checking out a Touch Pro the rep couldn't even tell me about what type of hardware it was packing inside, and I seemed to know much more about WinMo 6.1 then he did. I wish we had a rep like you out here.
