time to replace battery, where did you get yours?

I bought an OEM Samsung battery in Samsung packaging, from a local Micro Center store, so there was no question I was getting the real thing.
Some of the ones on Amazon and Ebay that are marketed as genuine, are not.
Samsung does not make an extended battery for the S5, so any you may see are knockoffs regardless of what the ad claims.
Capacity of non-OEM batteries may be less than stated.

I think I may have a fake 'Samsung' battery but how can you tell ? Would a fake give poor battery life ?

It can be hard to tell if the markings are duplicated well as they often are. If you put the suspected fake next to a genuine battery and carefully compare the labels you might be able to spot any subtle differences.
Yes it's very possible that a fake battery will not have the same capacity of an OEM one, they can also begin to lose capacity after a relatively few number of charging cycles.

The only differences on the apparent fake battery I bought is it doesn't say 'Near field communication' below the SAMSUNG text on one side and the logo's at the bottom are arranged in a different order...but what I saw on a YouTube video is that fakes are lighter in weight and sure enough mine is...about 4 grams

There are a lot of fake (or too old, or used) Samsung batteries being sold on Ebay, or even on Amazon as "new". After much research, I went with an Anker brand battery from Amazon ($13, shipped on Prime). Actually I bought 2 with a charger for $23 (since I have a family using 4 GS5s with aging batteries). The Anker batteries were rated very highly on Amazon, have NFC antennae, and the 2 that I received have performed every bit as well as Samsung batteries at a fraction of the price.
