LG G Stylo USB tethering on Virgin Mobile?

Hi all,new to the forum.
Purchased a new LG G Stylo Virgin Mobile phone from Best Buy specifically to tether to my pc. Tethering options include the following:
a) Wi-Fi Hotspot
b) Bluetooth tethering
Missing is "USB Tethering".

Naturally this is the option I wish to use for the following reasons:
a) data transfer speed
b) security
c) battery life
Called Virgin tech support, they said they lacked info on the Stylo and gave me LG's #. Called LG tech support, they say the phone will support USB tethering but only on Boost,Cricket and T-Mobile. Said it's the carrier blocking the option.

My question is this: What if anything can I do to gain this option?

Zeb

Hi Zeb:

Try "Easy tether", for USB and Bluetooth tethering. (find it on the "Play store") I've used it for several years with success. I've recommended it to others on multiple carriers and had heard of only success. I purchased the app and have had it on every phone I've had since. It Requires you to download and install client (user) side software and install it on your computer, but well worth looking into in my opinion. I'm using Boost (also owned by Sprint) and they've not stopped me or tried to block anything ever done using this app. (Basically, they don't know [can't tell] when I use it. They only know I use the data. So I maintain the "unlimited" plan.)

Thanks Brick, I'll give that a shot. Irritating is that I've already bought the add-on data packs, they're only good for 30 days.

Thanks again, Zeb

The free version allows you to browse normally, but not access ssl (secure socket layer) sites - ie: PayPal, banking, or other secure sites. But you can play many Games if that's your thing. The paid version allows full access to all sites. It's a valuable peace of software, what I really like is the small footprint of just a few hundred kilobytes for such a responsive cure.

Definitely going to be the full version. I buy and sell on e-Bay and PayPal being a natural component of such.
I'm still going to call Virgin again, maybe I can get the right tech to either turn on the option or confirm that they block it. I find it unbelievable that they "don't have the info on that phone". Call me cynical

You can enable tethering on VM stylo, get temp root with kingroot (DO NOT RESTART) or you might brick, then follow the instructions in expanded post #1 and expanded post #74 on http://androidforums.com/threads/wifi-tethering-for-lg-volt.909238/. I suggest you uninstall kingroot right after, as restarting bricked most everyone.

This is another option. Take note of and heed the warning! I've bricked my Stylo more than once due to the phone restarting/rebooting on it's own.

If you choose to go with the no root method I'd try the app before calling and/or buying. (I wouldn't want too give them a "heads up" that I'm looking to bypass their system for profit.

Sorry so long to report back, life has been busy. Tried EasyTether Lite, excellent !! Purchased the full version from Google Play Store, downloaded the computer side software from the oem's web site. An absolute snap !
Many thanks to all who took the time and gave the effort to reply in order to help a stranger.
A special thanks to BrickHouse for the easy solution.

Also, for detail sake, the phone is an LG G Stylo on Virgin Mobile, running 5.1 Lolipop, the computer is an eMachine T6528 (formerly running XP) now running Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa) w/ Mate desktop. (so long win-ders!)

Thanks again, Zeb

P.S. Compared to T-1 DSL, the USB tether is screaming fast !!

Sure thing Zeb.
Now it might be worth considering unlimited plans.

there is a tot file and LGup to re-flash zv7 now, so not as big of a deal, and also the newest kingroot doesn't force reboot before temp root. I was just warning about kingroot
Whaaat? I'm sorry I missed this! I thought, at the time, there was no way to get the drivers and someone was trying to sell the TOT. Can you please provide me more info and a link? I'm gonna start searching right meow....

Edit: I seem to have found it. Can't wait to download it tomorrow at work! Hope it works since I'm on v8. (link for others: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/lg-g-stylo-ls770-mm-restore-files-t3434198 ). Thanks, I gave up on this phone!

Trust me, i know. I bricked it before with KingRoot and had to ship it to LG. That's the reason I haven't rooted again, just changed my DPI over ADB. I really hate the lack of modding for us Boost/VM users. I bought this the day I lost my LG Volt and didn't do any research.

I'm not new to rooting and Android but sadly it seems rooting and CM ROMs are a thing of the past.

The trouble we have with root is the locked boot loader. That's what we need to figure out how to work around for a safe root option. Sprint found a way to lock it down, we've yet to find the key. I did research this phone before buying. And replaced it multiple times after the mm update. Even AFTER unrooting, the phone would brick on a restart. This is the first phone I've had and haven't rooted.
