Help What is reliable software to convert 3gp to mp4?

I just found that my Android cell phone creates videos in some weird, outer space format called 3gp that was intended for writing music for guitars in the music industry. God knows why, and he probably doesn't since he's from Planet Earth - or else he doesn't want to know.

Evidently there is no way to set the phone to record for-this-planet video format short of jail breaking.

I followed a You Tube video to the author's software to convert it to mp4, I got warnings about malware.

Can people please recommend converters that work well and aren't infected with malware. It must be free. I don't care if it's installable software or upload to web site, as long as I don't end up infected with malware.

I see cnet lists a few, but it looks suspiciously like either cnet googled for them, or anyone at all can get their software listed at Cnet; in fact, my IT teacher warned of such a thing.

Thanks!

Dora

There's nothing "weird" about 3GP, I assure you. It's a long-established multimedia container format specifically intended to facilitate content delivery over 3G UMTS connections.

MediaCoder is free and open-source, and is my own weapon of choice for converting/transcoding video.

On my desktops and laptop I rely on avidemux quite often. It's Open Source and multiplatform.

Occasionally I'll need to use an online media converter, been using these two for several years now:
Clipconverter

Zamzar

As for the 3gp file format, as Slug already stated there's nothing weird about it. Wherever you heard that, it doesn't sound very reputable. Look elsewhere for more reliable info.
