My cellphone got stolen last week and I just managed to replace it with a second milestone. Not really happy or anything, as I'm standing where I was a week ago. But now I read up that they've announced a god damned milestone 2?

Any rumors on release date and price tag? I want to shoot myself on the foot.

There's been no official announcement, just some leaks and rumours about two new Moto Android phones. I expect it will be months yet before anything official is announced, and even longer before the Droid/Milestone replacement is rolled out.

Partly because Verizon is going to keep riding the big marketing push on the Incredible, and until that spend is done and momentum drops off, they won't be looking for a new high-end Android handset. That'll take at least a fiscal quarter, more like six months.

What's Verizon got to do with the Milestone, you ask? Well, they footed a lot of the bill for the Droid (R&D and guaranteed subsidy sales).

Lets not forget the amazing sales success of the Droid on their network and their huge Droid advertising spend that reached the entire world (not just the US market). That meant Motorola had a paid-for platform and tons of free exposure world-wide, which allowed the Milestone to be a more than modest sales success world-wide.

You can bet that they're contracted to Verizon for world-wide exclusivity (excluding Vodaphone) for a period on the next high-end Motorola Android phone, and Verizon simply doesn't need it just yet, like I mentioned above, they're riding the Incredible wave right now.

I saw the pictures of a Motorola android prototype, square-shaped and with the keyboard that flips out. Don't remember where I saw it, but if you google you should find it. Hardly in the same league as the Milestone, though.

What non-US countries are you referring to, other than maybe Canada?
Let me assure you, in Europe the Milestone is almost unheard of and not easy to get hold of.

In the UK, for instance, there hasn't been an agreement with any networks. You can only buy it online, which means only techies and geeks who know about Android will; mass consumers won't even know about it.

This I really like. I do not fell like everyone around me has the same phone as me that is the case with the Desire. I thought of buying it as my second phone next to Milestone, but decided not to, too many people around have it.

I love having an unlocked Milestone, too, don't get me wrong.

I was just trying to say that, if you want to reach the masses, you need to strike deals with the main network operators, and you must find a way to display your phone in the main stores and shopping locations on the high street.

With the Milestone, neither has happened in Europe, so sales are very limited.

The masses, i.e. the majority of people on which companies make most money, don't post on these forums, but buy the latest phone they saw on the high street because it would make them look cool with their mates...
