Nandroid Question

When the 2.1 update does come out, if I decide that I want to check it out and revert back to the stock 1.5, is that what nandroid is? All I would have to do is reboot, pick the nandroid file and go back to 1.5? Also, if I do revert back to 1.5 will the phone be unrooted as well? Forgive me if these questions seem nooby like but to this forum, I am a bit of a noob. LOL!! If you don't ask you don't know. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Your phone is rooted now, so if you have a nandroid backup of the 1.5, and you install a DEV developed version of 2.1, you will be able to go back to stock 1.5 (still rooted). It is still unknown if the Sprint version of 2.1 (update) will have root ability. So, updating to the Sprint version of 2.1 may not allow you to go back to 1.5.

Hello Zeux --- JB makes a good point here. Restoring from Nandroid backup will STILL BE ROOTED. I believe you would have to use an RUU .exe application to take the phone back to a factory fresh condition (not rooted). Also, as noted, we do not know the exact form that the 2.1 Sprint factory upgrade will take and what restrictions there might be so it is a "wait and see" situation until we know.

if you use OFFICIAL sprint's 2.1 release ROM update... it will take away your root access.
we are not sure if you can re-root the new OFFICIAL 2.1 Sprint ROM.

if you use one of the CUSTOM 2.1 ROMs... then you still have root access.
and if you have a nandroid backup of your previous setups; you can restore it back to any previous backups.

when sprint does release an official 2.1 ROM, i am 99.99% sure some great developer will have it customed and ready for you to install with in a few hours / days.. so you dont loose root access, and can restore a backup.

long story short... use a custom rom!!!

For e.g. I have a back up right now of original Sprint install. If I want to add a blue color theme add-on, will I get the chance to make a second back-up of my current Fresh 2.07d in the boot screen?

you can make as many backups as u want. it is about 300MB each. so sd card space is your only limit. it saves it by date-time filename. you can move the backup files to your PC to save space. Keep your favorite backup on the phone just in case of issues.
