Help Phone WON'T Charge. Just Smells Like it's ON FIRE.

I've been having problems for the last week or so (really bad) with my charger(s). I had 2. One I used in my house, the other i kept in my car. The one for my house gave out first. A couple of months ago i started notiing when i charged my phone, it would get REALLY hot. Then that charger just stopped working. I thought it was maybe because there was some dirt or fuzz in the harging port, so u leaned it with some compressed air, that worked for a couple days with the charger from my car, but eventually the charging relapsed. I read a couple posts saying to use a little rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle tooth brush, it worked like a charm. but only temporarily.

I used my brother's charger all day, then tonight I tried my old one, and it didnt work, it just started making this sizzling noise and it smelled like my phone was burning. when i unplugged the charger the harging port and the charger both smelled like an electrical fire. and the charger looked charred. Not I cant get it to work with any harger for longer than 2 minutes.

I really dont want to have to buy a new phone, and i know that's what they're going to tell me to do if i go talk to someone at the tmobile store.

can anyone help?
I dont think it's safe to keep using the "how to charge your phone without a charger" method for a long period of time.


PS. another strange thing is my phone randomly started turning itself on and off it will turn on when i plug it in after it dies them immediately turn off and bak on

I can't say for sure but it sounds like either your charger or port is worn and not making a good connection. I think the sizzling noise would be caused by an electrical arc due to it not being tight. This would also generate heat liked you mentioned and possibly caused internal damage.

I would be concerned about using it and starting a fire. You could see if Samsung could repair it but it might not be worth it. All this is just a guess on my part since I don't have the phone. I'm sorry I don't really have a good suggestion.

I'd have to say that it sounds like a damaged charging port. Would your phone by any change still under warranty? I can't think of many other options for you. Sorry.

If you have an issue with phone turning off and on. Its a heat issue. With the phone itself not the battery. How often do you open up your task manager and clear out your ram? If not often then your phone could be running many apps at its highest ghz rate so yes it will get very hot. Luckily Galaxy devices have that temperature safety. Once it reaches a level it reboots. As for the charging I reccomend taking out the battery while the phone is on. And then put the battery back. Do not power on... just charge... after it reaches 100% unplug the charger... take battery out. Put it back in and boot up. Small little things that have helped me in the past. Any ?s just pm

yes but how am i suppose to know if it reached a 100%.. my phone shut down as it was 0% and i am having the same problem as laineyfressh

Well if it smells like burning, arching, and making sizzling noises, stop charging and using it immediately, before it possibly catches fire and causes some serious damage and/or injury!

If it's still under warranty, definitely seek service for it.

The S2 model came out in 2011 so it's not surprising that you might be running into problems at this point. As far as smartphones go five years is a pretty good run.
If money is a factor, maybe look into something like a refurbished S5?

I've only ever had one phone that's come close to possibly combusting. A new Nokia E71, it suddenly went off, got extremely hot and started smelling really bad, rather like the stink of a burning vehicle clutch when a driver is slipping it excessively. Fortunately I was able to pull the battery straight away. Then took it straight back of course, and demanded a replacement.
