So I normally have a HTC One M8, but that is waiting to be sent to HTC for repair as it's not turning on. My brother gave me his old phone - a Sony Xperia (not sure specifically what model it is) - to use whilst mine isn't working and it's been working perfectly. But last night when I plugged it in to charge, I had to tweak the charger in a certain position to get it to charge. When it got to around 5% today, I plugged in the charger again but it wasn't working at all now, so I started tweaking it and holding it in different positions in the hope that it would start charging but it didn't. I tried my charger with my friend's phone and it worked fine, I also tried other working chargers with the Xperia and still nothing was happening - even when plugged in, there's no lightning bolt symbol or red LED light.
As you can imagine, I'm convinced I'm cursed after two phones breaking on me in the space of a week. Not to mention freaking out because it's my brother's old phone and when I tell him it's not working he's not going to be happy. So my question is, can I try anything to get it to work? If not, I'm assuming it's the battery or the charging port that's faulty, so if I were to take that to a repair place, how much would it cost?

Today charges are so flimsy and cheaply made. It's a possibility that it's a short in the charger right at the wire where it bends on the male connector. Right at base of that male charger connector the part that's inserted into the device the wires tends to fray in that bend and making it seem as if it's the female port or the connector is damaged. The best option is to get another charger before you damage the device from the power going off and on as you try to get it into position to charge.
