[SOLVED]

(Just flashed Fresh 2.1.1 over 2.0d and everything is working as it should now. Phone is noticeably faster after I screwed it up spending countless hours trying to get this to work. Thanks Flipz!)

I am running Fresh 2.0d and I have apps2sd working with an ext3 partition. (I know this because the phone basically dies if I unplug the SD card and because there is an app folder under /system/sd/app). I still have very low internal memory (about 23mb remaining). It seems that when I install an app, it installs on the SD card and on the phone's internal memory. What's going on!?! I have also tried rebooting and repartitioning the SD card

When you first installed the partitioned SD card, and did your first boot afterwards, did you notice an appropriate drop in the memory used IN THE PHONE? This would have indicated that the phone MOVED the files to the SD card, and not just copied them. Some here have said that the files get moved, as you might expect.

You then said you repartitioned the SD card and rebooted. I assume the files were again placed on the SD card, but for this to happen, copies of the files had to remain on the phone..

Now I am confused since others have stated this is not what happens with apps2sd. Hmmmm. Any clarifications from experienced apps2sd users???

Thanks --- :D:thinking:

I had a similar (although not exactly the same) problem.

I installed darktremor's "apps2sd 2.5" (they now have 2.7 if you want it)

I am now running over 120 megs free space on my phone.

I ran into several others that had similar issues that did the same thing with the same results.

It does work. Here is how I went about it and my results.....

1. Went into "disk" mode under Fresh, and moved all the files on the FAT32 SD card over to a holding directory on the PC.

2. Rebooted Hero into Recovery Mode and selected to Partition the SD card. Selected my partition sizes for: SWAP, EXT2, and Remainder (FAT32).

3. Execute the partitioning. After it was complete, I upgraded my EXT2 partition to EXT3 for journaling benefits (typical Linux stuff).

4. Rebooted the Hero into normal boot mode.

5. Went into the SD card settings to check the memory numbers to do a before and after check. Before the partitioning and reboot, my phone had 88 MB of available RAM. Afterwards, that number INCREASED TO 95 MB. Voila! Many questions answered. The files were moved.

6. Went to the holding directory on my PC where I had stored the various files from the SD card earlier, and copied them back to the FAT32 partition where they were originally.

So, there it is. Have not yet had the time to go into the phone via the adb shell and look at the files on the EXT3 partition on the SD, but that will come. All apprears to be working well and I have one hell of a lot of storage space to work with :D:D:D

Thanks to all those that provided inputs and help.

Cheers -- Bob --- ;)

I tried this using apps2sd 2.7 beta 9 without moving the dalvik cache and nothing changed. I'll try using 2.5 with moving the dalvik cache when my new class 6 SD card comes in the mail.
