Thinking about switching back to the iPhone, but not for the reasons you think of..

So after having my S7 for a while now I love it to death and the Android OS, but unfortuanely all the newest flagships are only shipping with 32gb, yes they have SD cards but most dont have adoptable storage and apparently SD cards fail all the time. The iphone 6s plus I can get with 128gb on only have to pay a 300$ down payment. This does make me sad but and I hope samsung and others will go the Galaxy s6 route and just stick with high internal memory options.

No I cannot get a nexus 6p, but I would have to pay full price on it unfortunately.

Samsung S7 and Edge are available up to 64GB actually, maybe even 128GB. And some other Android phones definitely go to 128GB internal as well.

I'm in China, and there's plenty of large internal capacity Android phones here, both 64 and 128GB.

Laptops are heading the same direction. It's all about "cloud storage". It's really about $. Apple doesn't have to worry, (iCloud) due to there incompatibility with anything that doesn't start with an "i", all your money goes to one place.

Don't know about that, but Lenovo, Dell, Samsung, Great Wall, et-al, will sell you a laptop which has a largest hard-drive or SSD as you want, up to 2TB usually for laptop sized HDDs. Another thing PCs and laptops are not usually sold by carriers, such as T-Mobile. Who are presumably committed to only having 32GB maximum in their subsidized phones.

Microsoft and Apple would love you to use their cloud storage of course.

Yes, but the affordability factor is the problem. At least here. You get to pick them fresh off the tree. I just had noticed that with laptops and tablets merging.....which design will win out, as far as the common user is concerned.

ummm, the cheap no name SD cards fail, but I have never had a failure with a Samsung or San disk brand "top of the line" SD card.

and that goes back a few years when they weren't as good as they are now.

I will stay with Android, I have 64 gB in my Note 4 and have yet to fill that thing up. and I take a lot of videos and pictures. I also practice moving them off to my PC once in a while.... but it takes months before that is required.

I rememeber WAY back in the day my first laptop was a Dell Lattitute that had a whopping 4gb of hard drive. My father, who had given my the pc as a gift couldn't imagine why for the life of him I wanted to buy an external hard drive to have more storage space, lmao!!!!

I'm just going to be a snot and play devil's advocate on your rationalizations to get an iPhone 6s Plus.
1- Actually adoptable storage can be implemented on most flagship Android phones.

2- microSD cards do indeed '...fail all the time' but that's a misleading claim. Yes there's a theoretical limit to how long any microSD card will stay functional but most of them last beyond the time they're actually in use. The card in my S3 is coming up on four years old now and it's still working fine. I have an ancient class 2, 2 GB card re-purposed from an old LG phone into a Sansa Clip media player that I still read/write files to, and that card is even older. Of course those are just anecdotal examples but by a very wide margin most microSD cards will last as long as the gadgets their plugged into.

3- That $300 down payment is always a hollow argument. The 6s Plus/128 GB model retails at $850-950 so once you factor in the fact that you'll eventually be paying the full price through your monthly payments don't forget that you need to tack on few hundred more in 'interest' to the actual, final cost.
So you must have very valid reasons to switch to an iPhone, and there's no question the 6s Plus/128 GB is a really nice choice, but at least be up front about it.

We used to call it hire purchase in the UK, or buy it on the never never, i.e. an installment plan, usually at quite a high interest rate. Now it's figured into a phone contract.

It is important to get the RIGHT SD card.
Not just any SD card will work as adoptable storage.

Personally I think 32 gigs is a lot of storage but I completely understand that everyone is different.

IOS is a great OS if you know what you're doing on it. I'm so used it I actually had to re learn android when I turned on my old galaxy exhibit.

A lot of the apps I am interested in only run on iOS. I see an interesting app on a search, and it's always for iPhone or iPad. The Android equivalent leaves out the features that I do want. There are some cross platform apps that do work well.

However, unless I can get rid of the majority of Apple's built in apps or disable them, and replace them with what I do want - Apple is not in the picture.

There are plenty of valid reasons to switch to iOS -- it could indeed be specific apps that are unavailable in Android, or maybe how seamlessly iTunes/iCloud work as a backup solution is a factor, or maybe friend/family just all use proprietary services like iMessage and/or Facetime. But my objection wasn't about verifiable reasoning, it's just that when someone uses mis-truths as arguments that makes any reasonable discussion less credible

Every single last one of us does it (usually inside our own heads, if we acknowledge it at all) , but its still funny to hear a 9 year old doing it out loud.

If you want to by an Iphone then go for it, enjoy it, love and cherish your new shiny thing.... but don't feel you absolutely must justify it to us.... Just do it.

Yes, I think Samsung realized that with the S6, and rectified it with the S7, i.e. that's got an SD slot. Too bad if you're stuck with a 32GB S6 though.

Am I missing something, or can't you use Android 6's feature that adds the MicroSD card storage to the internal storage seamlessly? My HTC 10 has that but I think that's a standard feature in Marshmallow.

Samsung (and LG) disabled that (Adoptable Storage) feature.

I can, (with adb) enable it though on my LG G Stylo

I think Samsung has a similar way to "turn it on"
