Nexus 5X vs Galaxy S6 vs Huawei p9 Lite vs Huawei P8 Lite.

Hi,

I am in the market for a new phone, I have narrowed down my search to one of those 5.

I added Huawei P8 (NOT Lite) but the system will not let me modify its title.

Which one do you guys recommend?

They're all good phones.

I'm guessing the Galaxy S6 is the most expensive by a significant margin - and it certainly looks and feels a lot more of a premium phone than the 5X. Having said that, I'm not sure how much better it is. Obviously, as a 5X owner my calculation was that the premium look and feel weren't worth the extra cash but YMMV.

I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever phone you choose - I'm still very happy with my 5X.

Well, I do not care about look and feel, I care more about actual functionality, power, etc.

I am a Galaxy S4 owner, will I see a SIGNIFICANT improvement if I upgrade to the Nexus 5x?

Unfortunately, I don't know the S4 well enough for a direct comparison. What I can say is that:

- the 5X has one of the best cameras among the current generation of phones

(I guess the S4 is 2 or 3 generations old now)

- the screen is lush

- performance is fine (though there are faster phones available - for a price)

- the fingerprint scanner works very well and is surprisingly useful (and cool)

- fast charge makes a huge difference in real life

- monthly Android updates from Google

On the other hand:

- limited storage (max 32GB)

- no SD card

- non-premium look and feel (which you say isn't a priority)

For me, personally, I really like the look and feel of the N5X. I have a iPhone 5S that my work gave me to use, and my personal phone is the 5X. The iPhone is a metal body and it does look and feel nice; but, I really feel that the N5X also looks and feels really nice even though it's plastic. I guess what I'm saying is that its all about perspective. As far as performance goes, I don't have any history with any of the other phones, so for me, the N5X rocks! I came from a 1st generation Moto G (2013) so I see a noticeable difference in performance. Again, perspective.

I'm with you re the look and feel: I kinda like it despite it not being as premium as the better half's iP6.

Re battery: I think (see below) it's the best I've had on an Android phone but obviously, it's not like a 90s Nokia that goes for a week.

I mentioned in an earlier post that the fast charge was a game changer: what I mean is that I find I need to plug the phone into the standard wall charger less and less - and almost never overnight.

I have a 3A adaptor in the car and a type C port on my laptop, both of which allow the phone to fast charge. I tend to hook the phone up whenever I'm in the car or attach it the laptop when I get to work and in less than 30 minutes (usually in around 10 or 15), it's fully charged.

It also means that I don't really have a good idea how long the battery lasts as I'm rarely away from the car or a computer long enough for the battery to get below about 70%. Apparently, this is actually better for modern phone batteries: you shouldn't let them run all the way down before charging as was the recommendation a few years ago.

I am close to a charger too and i rarely go below 100% haha, I have a charger at work, computer, car, bedroom, livingroom, etc. Most people have been recomending the Nexus 5X too, so I guess that one will be one of my first options to consider.

Great features, great battery life, Miracast (MirrorShare) support, etc.
Plus...
Supports NFC for bus fares, etc...
'Adoptive' micro SD card up to 128GBs...
Fingerprint scanner and functions...

I can't think of a better value smartphone on the market as of August 2016.
