Honor 5X AMA (ask me anything)

I bought 2 Honor 5x for me and my wife and we have been using them for about 4 months. We constantly get messages popping up saying we can't login to our AT&T email accounts because our password has changed. No, it hasn't. we try putting in our current password and the error comes up again. We have no trouble getting our email over a WiFi connection but it seems to happen most when we are on 4G. How can I avoid this error message since it's driving my wife crazy?

I don't think that's an Honor 5x issue but a problem with AT&T's authenticating servers. I get that with Yahoo mail sometimes. The one thing I would do is make sure your server ports are correct under incoming. If AT&T is like a lot of other big providers, they change their network architecture frequently and settings might need to be updated.

My 5x arrived today and I've now got it all configured for my commuting life between USA & Sweden, w/T-Mobile LTE in N. America and when roaming (2G data) at connecting airports in Europe & Telenor w/unlimited HSDPA+ data when in Sweden. I will also finally retire my nearly dead-battery iPod Touch from heavy podcast listening duty and migrate my subscriptions seamlessly to the same Pocket Cast app running on the 5x with everything synched.

I'm loving the fingerprint app control. A big upgrade from typing in my 10 digit PIN many times per day, or living without any security on my Sweden phone. The 5x has very useful dual-SIM setting options and snappy performance. So far, these points alone make me very happy I bought this over the only other decent-review, budget dual-SIM phone sold with a US Warranty -- Asus Zenfone 2 Laser.

If the powers who influence what goes into the updates are listening, I wish the short-cut screen was customizable (there are no wifi hot-spot tethering or airplane mode toggles! [found airplane mode option later on the power-off screen, but also found there is that sound on/off option is duplicated -- taking up the space I'd want to put hotspot on shortcuts]), or at the very least there was a better widget option to supplement those shortcomings on the home screen (only shortcuts to selected settings pages are offered, so still, no one-button toggles).

I am not an NFC-for-payment convert so I don't care about that being absent, but I've seen enough charging ports on both android and IOS devices become loose and unreliable over time, requiring fidgeting with the cord or connector to get charging started. So this time I'm going to try using wireless charging from the outset to preserve the micro USB connector. Since the 5x doesn't support Qi directly, does anyone have a specific product recommendation for an aftermarket Qi wireless charging receiver that fits the back of the 5x without blocking the fingerprint sensor? Also, a case that is thin enough to not interfere with charging, but still giving decent drop protection?

Thanks in advance.

I forget how the shortcuts look on LP as I've been running test builds for the last few months but, the recently announced update to MM the toggles in the notification shade scroll and at the bottom is an edit button, so you can make the changes you desire. I just can't remember if that was on the 151 build.

I've been using this as a daily driver since December 2015 and charging daily of sometimes fore than that and the USB plug is as solid today as when I pulled it out of the box.

That's great news. I hope that distro ships soon.

Is there anyway to add an NFC sim or sdcard, to get android pay working? that the only thing holding me back.
That's not how it works, I'm afraid. We're stuck without NFC. :(

Hopefully Huawei (and, really, the other Chinese manufacturers) will listen to their customers clamoring for NFC and include that on future products.

Hello Honor 5X users, is there a way how to add lyrics to your music?
I've gotten the lyrics tagged in the music files already. Any other music app can view the lyrics but this default Honor music app can't for some reason. I actually like the default app and I don't want to kill free space with big apps just to see the lyrics. Do I have to add the lyrics differently?

I will appreciate any advice. Thank you very much :)

Has any of your call recipients noticed a significant echo of their own voice, when you talk to them on Google Hangouts with speakerphone on? Or during a Hangouts video call ?
Do I need to return/exchange my wonderful, two week old Honor 5X to Amazon ?

Update May 6, 2017: After updating from KIW-L24C567B331CUSTC567D003 ('Marshmallow', August 2016) to KIW-L24C567B351, the Google Hangouts speakerphone issue seems to be fixed.

I regularly encounter an echo and/or delay when making calls via Hangouts on any device (including Nexus 6P). Enabling the speakerphone option definitely makes it worse.

I don't think it's just your device.

Thanks.
I've noticed a small (& sometimes annoying) Hangouts related voice delay on all my devices -- small price to pay for free, unlimited, Wifi calls to phones.
But the speakerphone echo -- which did Not happen on my Blu Studio 5.5 cell phone & Win7/Firefox/HP Laptop -- is so surprisingly bad, that it makes Hangouts speakerphone and video chat unusable. Video chat 'requires' a bluetooth headset or earphones.

Hello, how do you open the App Permission settings ? For example ; disabling/enabling sms, location, camera, etc on a certain app. Thank you
Settings | Apps. At the bottom left of the screen is the gear icon for the Advanced menu. App permissions are in there.

You don't have the button shown in the picture? Are you on the latest build?

I apologize ahead of time if this has already been asked, however, i could not find it in the forums

I'm looking at getting the Honor 5x but am a little turned off by the long duration of charging time. I've read on some sites that the Honor 5x is quickcharge 2.0 compatible but I do not see it listed on qualcomm's approved devices. Have you or anyone else had any experience using a quickcharge (either 2.0/3.0) with it and what is the approximate charging time? Is there any deleterious effects to the battery in using this charging method? Thanks in advance!
