Some things I don't like about Marshmallow

Right out of the box, is the way the USB port is being handled.

My Note 4 with 5.x and 4.4.4 would charge just fine while I was copying files from it to a PC.
In fact, it would charge at a pretty decent rate. Not as good as a Charger Module @ 2.1 A per the OEM wall wart, but it was okay.

Now, 2 weeks ago, MM gets pushed onto my Note 4 and things are going wonky in a bad way.
I spend a lot of needless and wasted time trying to figure out why in the hell I can't see the files on the phone.
Got that straightened out. ( pull down the notification bar, and tell it what to do. ARGH!!! )

Okay, now I spend a lot of time working with pictures, several gigabytes of them, and don't get in any hurry to unplug the phone, move it to a "real charger".... I just leave it plugged into the PC.

well, after a while, I hear the beep and the Audio voice "Battery Low!" :thinking:
Huh? the damn thing has been plugged in now for almost two hours, and the battery is going down?

Yep, it will not charge if it is in file transfer mode.
Now mind you, nothing physically has changed.
same phone,
same cables,
same PC....

just a new OS called MM for Mystery Mangled Mess...

worthless as tits on a boar hog IMO.

I want to go back to 5.1.1, at least that is dependable.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for Part Two:
Battery Life:
ain't worth a shit now with MM.
Nothing has changed except for MM instead of 5.1.1
I used to get thru a full day with 4.4.4, sometimes two days.
with 5.1.1 the battery would last at least 12 hours before I was forced to put it on the charger.
now, I have to put it on a charger every 2 or 3 hours of use???????? that is just not acceptable. :mad:
That use? transferring files, sending pix on Facebook, reading the newspapers, sending emails and maybe download a file once in a while.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sad Sack #3
it seems to be a lot more sensitive to pulling up apps that I did not ask for.
randomly different apps just jump up and get in my way, I have to kill them so I can go on.

I am going to put a piece of tape over the proximity sensor, that thing is driving me crazy...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
your turn.
I don't like the way they catch fire when you're trying to make a s'more. Oh, wait, wrong marshmallow. ;)
Seriously #1 I don't get at all. I don't see any security advantage in making only charge mode default ... and persistent. I'm sure they had their reasons (Like 'Hey, we're Google ... we can do anything we want!')
#2 would probably be fixed with at least flushing your system cache or better, a factory reset. Most report a little better battery life, or no change.
I am going to avoid an FDR like the plague as long as I can get by without it.
it takes me weeks to finally get every last little aggravating nuance back into line after the FDR has been done.
clearing the cache, I do once in a while anyway, and now that has been brought up, I ignored my last calendar reminder to do that because I was on a m/c tour and did not want to mess with the phone.
so, that will get done here in a bit.... in my recliner, I can afford to watch it and make sure all is well.
I'm waiting for someone from Verizon to say something about the 2nd release that VZW turned loose 2 days ago.... does it hlep? cause issues?
would really like to hear something good with it.
for now, I am telling it 23 hours and see how long I get to do that....
with 5.1 that only lasted about 5 days and then VZW ignored me yelling and screaming and pushed it thru anyway. I liked 4.4.4 and still do, it is my flavor of choice.
uh, just remembered, I can't flush the cache right now......... the instant I do, MM vs #2 installs, that is spelled out blantantly, that if the phone is ever powered off, MM#2 will install when it is powered back on again...
woe be the miserable sob who did not have the battery charged and the phone on a charger when that happens.
The charge recovery rate is extremely slow with MM compared to 5.x while transferring files.
It just barely stays even, and some times, as I mentioned, it was losing power.
it is possible of course, that the cable I used was not up to snuff, but it is the OEM 2.1 amp cable supplied by Samsung, and I treat it gently. it is not subjected to everyday use.
I have other cables bought for the purpose of everyday charging use at my computer desk...
They don't transfer files as well as the OEM cable does. Some in fact, don't even see the PC/phone files. Must be charging cables only.
This really sounds like it's connected to your shorter battery times as well. If an app or process is stuck on, it will charge slower and drain faster. From full charge to 40% or lower what do your battery stats say are the biggest users?
I haven't bothered to look.
most of those charts are misleading anyway, you have to keep things in perspective.
What I have noticed though, is it no longer Fast Charges if the phone is ON and the full charge times are extended longer than the normal 90 minutes I am used to.
If the phone is OFF, the screen displays Fast Charge
Mine updated on June 27....
nothing special to note about it.
Battery life "might be" a trifle better...
I have not bench marked anything, just doing my usual drifting around the country, turn DATA off when not needed, doing a tremendous amount of texting. Some geo locating trying to find things, but only for maybe 5 minutes at a time.
I do have one irritation that I have not been able to track down "the why"...
I can answer a call w/o the BT headset enabled. When I say "hello" they don't hear me.
I can turn on the BT headset and all is okay. I can toggle to speaker and back to BT, works fine.
I can make calls out, and it works fine....
just an aggravating situation, that I can receive a call, say 'hello' and they don't hear me.
to make it niftier, it only happens maybe half the time???
My battery seems to crap out faster now too. My biggest problem so far is when I send a text with an attachment I have six options from where I get said attachment. However, now every time I choose, it automatically sets that choice as default and I have to go in and clear it. Every. Single. Time. What the hell? Any way to stop that?
I asked the same question and KOLIO gave me this answer here:
My Note 4 died a sudden hard death, and I am now back on my old reliable S5 again.
just pulled the SIM out of the Note 4, plugged it into the S5 and wallah, it was like as if the S5 had never been away from the fold.
I think the magic of that was, the S5 was already registered to the same phone number as a working phone, and still in Verizon's list of prior activated phones.
anyway, this discussion has made me leary of allowing MM to install on the S5.
I hope, it gives me the choice to do so, if it does, I will turn it down.
So far, after using it again for about 8 hours, it has not asked me to install MM, thank goodness.
