Being a tad bit factious there, although they have the absolute best coverage map in the USA, and after 25 years with them, why get in a hurry and change ships now?

Now, to my point:

My wife's S5 is still on 4.4.4 and is not rooted.
I have macros that toggle both DATA and WiFi 'OFF' when the phone goes to sleep, and when the phone wakes up. That means, that for all practicable purposes, it is impossible for any system updates to occur.

Well, to my surprise today, she got a phone call and I answer her phone. When that call hung up, I was greeted with the screen to apply the 5.1 update

huh? how in hell did that get on there? this phone has not seen the internet since it was born... well for a few minutes it did until Candy Crush could get loaded up... and then it went to sleep.... a toy only for her. ;)

but hey, it is her device, and all she wants is Candy Crush and to receive a phone call from our kids.

So........... here I am pondering: How in the Hell did Verizon manage to push that update onto her phone?
I am thinking they have figured out a way to toggle WiFi on when the phone is asleep via SMS or something....

for now, all is safe again. Powered it OFF.
Volume Up, Home Key pressed, Power ON.
Clear Cache Partition.

problem solved, no more update flags.... for now anyway. o_O

When you connected her phone to the Internet to download Candy Crush the phone checked for, saw, and downloaded the update. You are in no way obligated to install it, and I can assure you that we don't have a way to remotely control your phone.

Candy Crush was loaded on the phone 2 years ago....
why did the update notice suddenly show up now?

I just hit the clear button so the notice goes away, I am not going to click on "later" period.

what I want to do is get rid of the notice....
On my S5, which is in constant use, I told it NO, NO, NO, NO and it ignored me and installed 5.1.1 anyway without my permission....

in fact, I had a 3 way conversation between VZW CS and Samsung CS and they told me there is NO WAY to prevent it from installing.

for the S5, version 4.4.4 is the last good OS for that phone.
After that, the ability to toggle certain things was removed, the colors were changed, and other issues showed up that I don't like.

On my personal S5, it is now on 6.xx and I was unable to prevent that from happening also.
So don't tell me it does not have to be installed. It did it anyway.

oh yeah, it is a Love/Hate thing alright.

i don't appreciate always being on the hind teat when upgrades come out.
Hind teat when new offers for anything come out.
and never being able to stop a System Disgrade when I don't want it....

for my S5 and my Note 4, I wanted both of them to stay on 4.4.4
for my Pastel Color Blindness, it is the only OS that I can easily use. MM has mollified that a bit, but I still cannot use the damn thing in daylight, only in dark rooms with my magnifier lenses on.

If I am outside, I can answer the damn thing, but I can only call folks who have a Speed Dial set up already.

why am I still with them? coverage, pure and simple.
oh, their Customer Service department does rate a '10', I will have to give them that. but, they have their limits, they can't stop the Disgraded OS changes.
