Alternative to Asurion $7 insurance!

This Asurion cell phone insurance is legit? What is stopping people from saying their phone got stolen 6 months down the line and getting a free Evo?

The fact that for all smartphones on Sprint you now have a nonrefundable $100 deductible to pay to replace a lost or damaged phone. Plus the current phone becomes a brick since it becomes blacklisted in the system.

Insurance fraud for one. Second, it's no free. For Evo level of smartphone, there is a $100 replacement deductible. Third, the phone you claim is lost or stolen gets deactivated, and cannot be reactivated. So what would be the point.

Someone was talking about the GeekSquad insurance earlier. I think it was $10 dollars a month, but I'm not sure about what the specifics are and if they have a deductible.
I have it on my hero. Geek Squad Black Tie Protection. It's 10 bucks a month. They will cover everything except loss/theft (even water damage). You do not have to deal with a separate company. If anything goes wrong with your phone they will either send it to a repair facility to be fixed, or just activate and give you a new phone right away at the best buy store for free.

How do you pay? You pay all at once for the year or whatever, or do you pay for it through a reoccurring bill sent from BB?

Co-pay?

what I don't understand is why these insurance prices and co-pays are going up so high? When i got insurance through asurion on my bb two years ago it was 6 bucks a month and 50 dollar co-pay, 100 is kinda crazy
The $100 is only for wather damage or lost/stolen, anything else breaks on the phone and they replace it w/ out the co-pay, BUT remember, if you buy your phone w/ a credit card, some credit cards have extended warraties in their fine print that will, alot of the time, extend you 1 year warranty to 2-3 years (depending on the credit card, but debit/check cards dont have this option)

@djdisturbed
Well I guess I am in a different category since i bought the original storm I've been through 6 and had to pay for 3. even though only one was my fault the others were all hardware or software issues
Dunno, but I have seen many people w/ pre's who have had issues get new/referb ones w/ having to pay b/c of hardware failure, after the warranty was up. and according the the paperwork i got a while back when sprint switched to Asurion, thats what they said also. BUT if you phone shows any sign of H2O getting into it (the indicater strips inside have changed colors) then they will make you pay, FYI for those who like to keep there phone w/ them in the steam room :p

There IS a 1yr warranty, without insurance, isn't there? I've been on the iPhone so long I don't even remember how that's normally handled. I will say, being able to take the phone to the apple store is super convenient

i dunno, BUT if there is, and you use a credit card that extends the warranty, you will be in luck and have 2-3 years instead of just 1 year

Yes there is, and i have been down that route with HTC but that left me without a phone for just about 4 weeks :eek:, and i had to pay for shipping...

the sprint insurance is so much easier (just take it in and exchange it), especially when you are as hard on your phones as i am...
