What's up with Swiftkey?

I use it, and it suddenly refused to go to the minor character on a split key. I wanted an ampersand, and I couldn't get to it. It did not show up as a choice over the letter key. It was printed on the key, but you couldn't enable. All of the minor choices were hard to enable.

Swiftkey's swipe option is a nuisance. I'd like to disable it. It wants to swipe when I don't want to.

Fortunately, I also have Smart Keyboard which did go to the minor characters.

You can disable the swipe feature in Swiftkey settings I believe. There is a swipe option...just uncheck it. Swiftkey very recently did an update and fixed some bugs. If you haven't already done so, try updating the app. That may help. Sounds like your ampersand issue was a bug.

EDIT: I did not realize this thread was 5 years old...geeeezzz! :mustachedroid: lol

I always use Swiftkey, I never use the swipe option. I "type" with a Targus pointer on my Droid Turbo 2.

I can access the & with a long press of the d key or the & key on the numeric keyboard.

The only stupid thing I have found is the key marked {&= brings up a keyboard that does not have an & or =.

That's the one. Why???????? Ampersands are not illegal.

No. I just started it today. I'll check the disable. If not, the developers will get a written question about why the Ampersand and the swiping.

I swipe and can type probably 100 words a minute that way with only a few mistakes. I'm very impressed with how it has "learned" how I type just like it's supposed to.
I sometimes need to double tap on the up arrow to get to minor characters.

Me too, i have tablet only so far and i'm really impressed how great it is especially keyboard size, which i adore.

I just complained to Swiftkey. They say it is not possible to disable flow and gestures. That means Smart Keyboard until Swiftkey changes its mind.

It looks like it is one or the other. Pretty sure it has always been that way. That said the gestures are only to delete and swipe the keyboard away (which personally I find useful and didn't realize I lost with swipe on).......I wouldn't think those should be deal breakers.

Only 2 choices and neither have anything to do with swiping. At least not on the Moto Pure running 6.0. I do not like swiping. I have enough trouble trying to type the normal way. And to have the app make the decision to swipe in between despite your preferences.

Sorry, I know what I want and I resent AI making my decisions.

Trying Fleksy

Sigh, I don't know why I'm going to put the energy into this - but if you would just trust us, follow the instructions Thom has laid out and select Gestures, you will turn off Flow which is their swiping tech. While this does leave you with 2 gestures that you have to do pretty deliberately to activate, I think you will find that keyboard works the way you want.

I get you don't like swiping, I'm with you - I don't care for it either but that is why like Swiftkey, because it is can be disabled.

It is NOT in there. Tells you how to move the stuff around, not how to stop it.
I only have the first two choices.

"Flow can be turned off, but this then turns on swipe to delete. Gestures cannot be fully turned off, neither can emoji.

Swipe to delete should be less likely to trigger then Flow to type."

Reply from Swiftkey.

The damn thing pops up in the middle of what you are typing, and you can't disable. You have to close Swiftkey and start all over.

Flow. I've had flow start for no reason in the middle of composing a text.

Swipe left to delete a word, Swipe down to hide the keyboard. No mention of Flow

Only 2 choices I have.

I am shaky right now due to medication and typing is hard enough between this and a cat in your lap. If it's accidentally triggered, you have to delete, exit, and start all over.

Smart Keyboard does not do this. Smart Keyboard also hides the emoji. Smart Keyboard's touch is suspect.

I am not talking to the effing phone to compose email.

Fleksy isn't the best, either, but you can find the punctuation.

BTW, I bought Swiftkey years ago

The options are either Flow or Gestures

Flow was the thing you did not like. The only other option you have is Gestures. This then means a swipe left will delete the word at the current cursor location.

Those are your two options. If you don't like the way Gestures works then you are out of options and you will need to find an alternate app.
