Can you root after installing leak 2.1 RUU?

Was wondering if you can root your phone after installing the leaked 2.1 RUU?
And if you can, is it the same procedure and codes?

The leaked RUU was a test build and is already rooted.

Then can you just flash a rom like fresh 2.0d?

No, you have to flash the recovery image in a different way. Check the Pre 2.1 Leak thread for all the directions.

I installed via the 2.1 .exe RUU and was enjoying it but looking into rooting...and it turns out I was already rooted. I put on a recovery image and copied over the .zip and flashed..best decision ever. DamageControl flows much better than 1.5 and the leaked 2.1.

+1 at that. I was always normally afraid to root, but since this is already rooted, my fears are gone, LOL. Could I possibly atleast get a link to figure it out?

AGain, considering im nearly a complete noob, still, I followed instructions on there, and I got past everything until i got to flashing the recovery.img. I keep getting access denied. I continued through the post to look for some help on that, but i couldnt find anything to help me. X_x

Read the first four pages. He had trouble getting access also.

I'll be trying this tonight so I'll let you know what happens.

I used the exe RUU and then followed the link you posted to put a recovery image on. Didn't really understand what I was doing at the time but after using the 2.1 for a while I wanted more.. all I had to do at that point was copy the damage control .zip to my sd card, wipe the phone through recovery and flash through recovery. if you still need more help let me know. I'm posting from my hero right now but I should be home later.

k im a total noob also!! im so damn confused!!! !! i go to my cammand prompt after installing the sdk and type in adb shell and says adb is not a recognized as an internal or external file!! please help im so lost ive tried everything and read up on so much!!

also when the pop up window comes on to look for hardware or whatever i do exactly what it tells me to to browse and pick the usb_ and when i do it comes back saying cannot install driver ... so confused ! i am on the leak 2.1 and i really want to do diffrent stuff!! can it be my computer???

Hey got it working running fresh 2.0d, which is badass.

First, do you have android sdk installed.
If you do you need to get to it from cmd prompt. Then start doing the adb shell steps from there.

Let me know if any problems, I'll walk you through it while it's still fresh in my mind.

8. At the prompt enter the following, one line at a time followed by enter

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit

adb push flash_image /system/bin
adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img /sdcard
adb shell
chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
reboot
9. Your phone will reboot. When it is finished, back at your command window, once again enter

Do you have the recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img unzipped and in the android-sdk-windows/tools folder.

make sure that you have USB debugging turned on and that the SD card is NOT mounted

download PDANet (there's a link in the rooting guide that is a sticky at the top of this forum). when you install it the correct drivers will be installed.

go to the folder that you have the SDK unzipped in (follow the guide that is stickied at the top of this forums it tells you how and where)... then change to the tools folder... then type in the adb command

Did you rename the recovery file?

not sure what you mean by unzipped...the file should be left intact with the .img extension..
